Jim Broadbent Reveals Details About His 'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 Character

Veteran British actor Jim Broadbent has teased a few details about the “significant” character he will portray in the upcoming seventh season of ‘Game of Thrones’ – and it turns out that a great deal of the fan speculation was correct!

Despite the HBO hit show’s producers wishing to keep almost everything about season seven under wraps ahead of its arrival later this year, Broadbent spilled a few crucial details for ‘GoT’ fans in a new interview with entertainment site Screencrush.

“I'm an old professor character,” he said, having initially hesitated to say too much. “I did five episodes. I did sort of one major scene in each episode.”

Given that the penultimate seventh series is only going to consist of seven episodes, this is an extremely significant character indeed, and seems to back up the favourite fans’ theory that Broadbent will be playing Maester Marwyn, a character associated with Samwell Tarly (played by John Bradley-West) and, potentially, Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) too.

With the 67 year old actor’s casting confirmed back in September last year, fans scoured George R.R. Martin’s books and alighted upon the possibility that he would be playing the Archmaester, though some think he’ll play an amalgamation of Marwyn and another Archmaester.

As it has consistently done in the past about such things, HBO has declined to confirm or disconfirm what Broadbent said.

‘Game of Thrones’ is set to return in the summer, although a broadcast date has not yet been established. Normally, it begins in April, but filming was delayed until winter last year because the series itself has now actually reached 'winter'. Cast member Liam Cunningham (who plays Ser Davos), however, recently let slip that the date will be in July.
