Jimmy Kimmel is contemplating retirement following the expiration of his 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' contract in 2019. Because of his perfectionist tendencies, he ends up making a lot of work for himself on the ABC show, and he could really do with some time out.

'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' has been on the air for 14 years, and the self-confessed 'control freak' host has claimed to spend up to 70 hours a week working on each episode; from writing monologues to researching his guests for interviews. So it's no wonder he's considering not renewing his contract in the Fall of 2019.

'I know I will do the show for another three years', he told Variety. 'It's possible that will be it. My wife's pregnant. At a certain point, I'd like to have a little more free time. I have very little free time as it is.'

Just because it might be the end of his long-running talk show doesn't mean that we won't be seeing him in various other hosting ventures in the future. For example, he's preparing to host the 87th Academy Awards this weekend (February 26th 2017), marking his first time ever. Last year he returned to host the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards.

'I think this job is a grind, and best-cast scenario, a marathon', he admitted. 'I want to go out on my own terms. If I ever feel like we're repeating ourselves, I think it's a good indication that it's time. I will miss it when I go. Television is changing quickly. I get a lot of offers to do a lot of different things.'

Plus, Jimmy has a lot of other interests besides television presenting, and retirement would lend him a lot more time to take up these things. 'If there's something that excites me creatively, it doesn't necessarily mean something in show business', he muses. 'I like to draw. I like to make sculptures. I'd like to write a book at some point. Doing the show every day doesn't leave a lot of time for that.'
