Jj Abrams is the latest Hollywood director to discuss to the possibility of helming the new Star Wars movie Episode VII, though gave a detailed reasoning for why he probably won’t be the man to take forward the new Disney franchise. Abrams is one of a whole host of directors tipped for the job, though Matthew Vaughn is thought to be in active talks with movie bosses.

Speaking to Hollywood Life, Abrams confessed, “Look, Star Wars is one of my favorite movies of all time. I frankly feel that – I almost feel that, in a weird way, the opportunity for whomever it is to direct that movie, it comes with the burden of being that kind of iconic movie and series.” The director won plaudits for his Star Trek movie in 2009 and he’s currently at work on a sequel, though he admitted, “I was never a big Star Trek fan growing up, so for me, working on Star Trek didn’t have any of that, you know, almost fatal sacrilege, and so, I am looking forward more than anyone to the next iterations of Star Wars, but I believe I will be going as a paying moviegoer!” One man who definitely won’t be directing Episode VII is Quentin Tarantino, the ever-colourful filmmaker telling E! News he “couldn’t care less” about the movie. Steven Spielberg has said it’s “not his genre” despite speaking of his desire to make a Star Wars film in the past.

Jon Favreau is reportedly interested in the project, though the smart money remains with Vaughn.
