J.J Abrams treated Star Wars fans to a look at a new model of the iconic X-Wing Starfighter in a new video calling for submissions to a tie-in charity initiative aiming to fund Unicef Labs and help poor children around the globe.

"We are offering you and a friend to visit the set of Star Wars: Episode VII and be in the movie. But we're also offering something else - the chance to be in an advanced screening of Episode VII before it hits theatres," Abrams explained.

"By supporting Force For Change, you win a private screening of the movie in your hometown and invite 20 of your closest friends and family. We know how much Star Wars means to so many of you and we love to share the movie with you first by supporting this truly great cause," he added.

Star Wars Episode VII is the - you guessed it – seventh entry in a sci-fi franchise that started 37 years ago when the first film was released in 1977. Since Disney acquired LucasFilm and everything Star Wars last year for over $4b, a host of director were bandied around before Abrams and a crew including Harrison Ford, Lupita Nyong'o and Oscar Isaac were settled on.
