As always, we'll need to sift through a vast number of sequels and remakes to find something original next year. But here are a few things worth looking forward to. Of course, release dates are subject to change...
1. Star Trek: Into Darkness (May)
Jj Abrams continues his reinvention of the iconic sci-fi franchise with what looks like a full-on action epic. And we're also looking forward to the next chapter of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (Dec).
Starring: Chris Pine & Benedict Cumberbatch

2. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Nov)
A change of director is a bit worrying, but Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson surely won't let us down with this brainy action sequel. The even more fantastical Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (Aug) is less of a sure thing.
Starring: Jennifer Lawrence & Josh Hutcherson
3. The Great Gatsby (May)
Baz Luhrmann's oft-delayed epic version of F Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel is unmissable. The cast is excellent (Leo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire), and Luhrmann in 3D will certainly be eye-popping.
Starring: Leonardo Dicaprio & Carey Mulligan.

4. Man Of Steel (Jun)
Despite the rubber-looking suit, Zack Snyder's Superman reboot looks darker and much more emotional than anything we've seen before. Dare we say Dark Knight-esque? Other comic franchises include Iron Man 3 (May) and Thor: The Dark World (Nov).
Starring: Henry Cavill & Amy Adams

5. The Lone Ranger (Jul)
Johnny Depp's next nutty oddball will be Tonto, the injun sidekick to Armie Hammer's Lone Ranger in this action-effects comedy remake of the iconic TV western serial. Directed by Gore Verbinski (the original Pirates trilogy), let's hope it isn't as much like Wild Wild West as is sounds.
Starring: Johnny Depp & Armie Hammer.

6. Kick Ass 2 (Jun)
Even with a new writer and director, this is bound to be hysterical good fun as the entire cast reunites for more rude action mayhem. Also looking forward to seeing what happens with the re-imagined X-men spin-off The Wolverine (Jul). Not quite so excited about 300: Rise of an Empire (Aug).
Starring: Chloe Grace Moretz & Jim Carrey.
7. World War Z (Jun)
The apocalypse is all the rage in 2013, and the biggest blow-out looks to be this zombie blockbuster starring Brad Pitt. See also Tom Cruise's Oblivion (Apr), Will Smith's After Earth (Jun) and Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel's The End of the World (Jun).
Starring: Brad Pitt & Mireille Enos.

8. Oz The Great And Powerful (Mar)
It's only been 70-some years since The Wizard of Oz, so Sam Raimi's prequel at least wasn't rushed. And the trailer looks pretty spectacular. More big budget fairy-tale action is coming in Bryan Singer's remake Jack the Giant Slayer (Mar) and the revisionist Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (Jan).
Starring: James Franco & Mila Kunis.

9. Monsters University (Jun)
The characters (and voices) from the Pixar classic Monsters Inc are back for this frat-boy comedy prequel. And as for animated sequels, we'll also get second instalments like The Smurfs 2 (Jul) and Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers (Sep).
Starring: John Goodman & Billy Crystal.

10. Anchorman: The Legend Continues (tbc)
Ron Burgundy is back for a long-awaited sequel, reuniting cast members including Will Ferrell, Steve Carell and Paul Rudd. We might also be excited about the comedy sequel The Hangover Part III (May), if only Part II hadn't been so bad. Perhaps they've learned their lesson.
Starring: Will Ferrell & Paul Rudd.
