With the Harry Potter books/films all sewn up, J.K Rowling has been indulging in some other projects. Thoughts, though, often wander towards her seminal work, and her decision to see Harry off with Ginny, and Hermione off with Ron is playing on her mind; it should have been Potter and Granger walking down the aisle, she’s admitted to Wonderland magazine.

Radcliffe & Watson should have ended up together, regrets Rowling

"I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfilment. That's how it was conceived, really,” she explained in the rare interview, which was conducted by Emma Watson while guest editing the publication. “For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron."

She said: "I know, I'm sorry, I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I'm absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. “It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people's hearts by saying this? I hope not."

Watson, who played Hermione in the Harry Potter films, was in agreement with the writer of the books that made her famous. The 23-year-old actress said: "I think there are fans out there who know that too and who wonder whether Ron would have really been able to make her happy."

As it ended, Harry’s romance with Ginny blossomed into unison, and Hermione settled for Ron. Rowling has probably ruffled a few feathers with her admission, as Potter fanatics won’t want to see their beloved franchise sullied by regret or disdain. What do you think, should Harry and Hermione have tied the knot?
