Jk Rowling proves everyday why she's such an important figure for Harry Potter fans, and yesterday (May 11th 2016) was no different. She took some time to oblige a fan's request to help design a HP themed tattoo in order to help her heal from her emotional wounds.

JK RowlingJK Rowling proves to be the best... again

If anyone knows about depression and its effects on the human spirit, it's the inventor of the Dementors; JK Rowling. For those who don't know, Dementors a soul-sucking cloaked beasts that feed on the joy of human beings and render them void of all hope and happiness. But there is a spell to combat it; Harry becomes quite adept at the Patronus Charm which is the ultimate shield against the creatures.

When one fan, who related to the effects of the Dementors all to easily, decided she wanted the Charm's incantation - Expecto Patronum - tattooed on her wrist, she asked Rowling to help her out.

'I've been through (and am still going through) so many things in my life, from sexual assault to bullying to attempted suicide 8 times', she said on Twitter. 'I'm also trying my hardest to stop self-harming.. I wanna get 'expecto patronum' tattooed on the wrist I usually cut the most.'

Rowling's response? 'I love that you're working to heal and protect yourself. You deserve this. I hope it helps', she replied, along with a picture of a handwritten note reading 'Expecto Patronum'.

It's safe to say that that tiny gesture from such a revered author has made a big difference in one girl's life, at least for now. Plus, she's being such a good sport about it all, that she's even encouraging other fans to steal the idea and get the same tattoo.

'Guys seriously I don't mind if you all get this tattoo. Yeah she sent it to me, but she did it publicly so yeah. I cant be mad lol go ahead', she told the legions of other Harry Potter fans.

UPDATE (May 13th 2016):
The design has been turned into a high quality temporary tattoo by Momentary Ink for those HP fans out there not willing (or old enough) to go under the needle for real. Plus, all profits from the sale of these awesome transfers are going to a non-profit organization called To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) which aims to connect and help people with depression and suicidal thoughts; named after their first success story where they encouraged an addict to literally write 'love' on her arms after she was found to have slashed her herself with a razor-blade. Expecto Patronum indeed!
