'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' is dominating theatre news this summer, and now those who didn't manage to get a ticket for parts 1 and 2 of the play have probably got their copy of the script book which they pre-ordered months ago. But Jk Rowling says that's it now. No more Potter parables.

JK RowlingJK Rowling says 'no more'

The author insisted at the play's premiere in London on Saturday (July 30th 2016) that she will not write anymore about Harry Potter and his family. 'He goes on a very big journey during these two plays and then, yeah, I think we're done', she told Reuters at the event. 'This is the next generation, you know. So, I'm thrilled to see it realized so beautifully but, no, Harry is done now.'

Or is it? Let's face it, this isn't the first time we've ever heard Rowling say that she wouldn't write anymore Potter stories, and since then she's written a play called 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'. She tried to wiggle out of the idea that she's gone back on her previous promises by saying in a Tweet in February: 'To be clear! The SCRIPT of #CursedChild is being published. #NotANovel #NotAPrequel'.

However...

In 2007, a James Runcie documentary aired on television called 'J.K. Rowling: A Year in the Life', which true 'Harry Potter' fans will have watched and re-watched several times and dissected every inch of it especially given that it appeared in the Special Features of 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince'.

When Runcie suggested in the documentary that the new generation of Potters and Weasleys that Rowling had mapped out could be material for a future book, she said: 'Don't, it can't be. I think it's definitely time to stop. It gives me a certain satisfaction to say what I thought happened and to tell other people that because I would like my version to be the official version still even though I've not written it in a book. Because it's my world.

'But, no, I don't want to write anymore Hogwarts books.'

She didn't say 'I don't want to write anymore Hogwarts books' with a wink and a nudge, as if to hint that she may revisit the stories in other mediums; it really did seem like she was done with it. Thankfully for her fans she continued to reveal snippets of information about the world of Harry Potter via Pottermore.com which she launched in 2011. Now 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' has come along, exploring the school life of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger's children (as well as their work life at the Ministry of Magic), focusing mainly on Harry and Ginny's middle child Albus Severus Potter.

And then there's her screenwriting debut 'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them' which, granted, is a spin-off about the life of magizoologist Newt Scamander; the author of one of Harry's Hogwarts school books; rather than a continuation of the story. But still.

So excuse us, Ms. Rowling, if we refuse to stop hoping.
