Speaking to ITV News, Rowling said: “They've been amazing, they've been incredible, and you know what it is? It is the most extraordinary fandom so I'm kind of not surprised they didn't want to spoil it for each other but I'm so happy we got here without ruining it.”

Before the play began previews in early June Rowling had asked fans not to reveal details of the play’s plot. In a video shared on twitter the author said: “You’ve been amazing for years at keeping Harry Potter secrets so you didn’t spoil the books for readers who came after you.”

“So I’m asking you one more time to keep the secrets and let audiences enjoy Cursed Child with all the surprises that we’ve got to the story.” The play has earned rave reviews from both fans and critics so far and Rowling said it felt "extraordinary" to officially launch it after three years of hard work behind the scenes.

Speaking about her decision to take the story to the stage, she said: "I've probably had three offers a week to turn it into a play, a musical, an ice show... but it's only when I met Sonia Friedman (the play's producer) that I thought 'this is the one'."
