Jk Rowling has been delighting loyal Harry Potter fans recently with new stories everyday as the author counts down the 12 days of Christmas on her site, Pottermore. However it seems Rowling has also been using what free time she has to answer fan questions on twitter about the diversity of Hogwarts, the famous school of wizardry.

It all started when one fan tweeted the 49 year old author, “my wife said there are no Jews at Hogwarts. I’m a Jew so I assume she said it to be the only magical 1 in the family. Thoughts?”, to which she replied, “Anthony Goldstein, Ravenclaw, Jewish wizard.”

Rowling followed up the tweet later by writing, “OK, let me clarify that! Anthony isn't the first Jewish student, nor is he the only one. I just have reasons for knowing most about him!”

The author then wrote Goldstein was one of the original forty students she created in Harry's year, while also revealing that like many of her characters his name was taken from one of her friends.

But to everyone who started wondering wether or not they were represent at Hogwarts, Rowling then went on to say, “To everyone asking whether their religion/belief/non-belief system is represented at Hogwarts: the only people I never imagined there are Wiccans.”

As to why Wiccans were left out Rowling said it was “a different concept of magic to the one laid out in the books, so I don't really see how they can co-exist.”

Rowling also said that ‘of course’ there were LGBT students at the wizarding school, tweeting an image which read, ‘if Harry Potter taught us anything its that no one should live in a closet’.

Earlier this week the author also revealed that the only Harry Potter character she ever felt guilty about killing off was Florean Fortescue, the owner of the Diagon Alley ice cream parlour.

Writing on Pottermore Rowling said, "I seemed to have him kidnapped and killed for no good reason. He is not the first wizard whom Voldemort murdered because he knew too much (or too little), but he is the only one I feel guilty about, because it was all my fault.”

"I originally planned Florean to be the conduit for clues that I needed to give Harry during his quest for the Hallows, which is why I established an acquaintance fairly early on," she added. "

The problem was that when I came to write the key parts of Deathly Hallows, I decided that Phineas Nigellus Black was a much more satisfactory means of conveying clues. Florean's information on the diadem also felt redundant, as I could give the reader everything he or she needed by interviewing the Grey Lady.” Rowling is continuing to release Potter related surprises on the Pottermore site until December 23rd.
