Peaches Geldof

"#RIPPeaches": So went the hashtag that thousands of Twitter users used to pay tribute to the late Peaches Geldof, who was found dead in her Kent home on Monday with her baby son playing nearby. It's still not known how the 25 year-old mother-of-two suddenly passed away but her distraught family, including father Bob Geldof, have been given the body to plan a funeral whilst the toxicology test results come back. The Boomtown Rats star also lead the tributes to his "beautiful" daughter - read herePeaches Geldof: 1989 - 2014.

Farewell Mickey Rooney: Screen legend and former child star Mickey Rooney passed away last Sunday at home in California after a long illness. Known for his unforgettable roles in Night at the Museum, Breakfast at Tiffany's and National Velvet, the 93 year-old was still making plans to appear in more movies and lived up to his positive "Don't retire - inspire" mantra. An ugly dispute over Rooney's burial and will has erupted since the death but will hopefully soon be calmed so that Hollywood can honour one of its most prolific figures. Read our obituary hereMickey Rooney: 1920 - 2014.

The sixth edition of Hollywood's Sunset Strip Music Festival was a memorable affair with some amazing surprise features and a great show from this year's honouree Joan Jett with her band The Blackhearts.

The event took place last weekend (August 1st - 3rd) with an astounding 15,000 fans showing up to soak in the rock vibes. It kicked off on the Thursday as veteran rock chick Joan Jett was landed with the Elmer Valentine Award celebrating her influence on the Sunset Strip music scene. Following a stunning performance, the star told Rolling Stone how good it felt to be once again playing on the Strip. 'It felt really fulfilling in a lot of ways. When I left LA, it was with a hangdog vibe', she explained. 'I had the impression. of people laughing at me, saying. 'We told you girls couldn't play rock and roll'. It's very humbling. People are very sincere in their praise and you can't take it lightly.'

Tish And Miley Cyrus Rally Over Twitter To Save The Horses

Miley Cyrus Alec Baldwin Pamela Anderson Joan Jett

There’s never a shortage of causes for celebs to rally behind and Miley Cyrus’s latest pet project probably won’t come as a surprise.

Yesterday, after a flurry of tweets in her horse onesie, the Can’t Be Tamed singer voiced her support for a petition to ban all horse-drawn carriages in New York. Miley tweeted a link to the petition online, at the suggestion of her mother, who was the first to get behind the ban. "Miley grew up around animals and with all our horses growing up, so she is very passionate about protecting all animals," mom Tish Cyrus explained for E!News. It made sense then, to try and use Miley’s enormous fan base to raise support for the petition.

And it worked! A spokeswoman for New Yorkers for Clean, Livable & Safe Streets, the organization behind the proposed ban, the organization behind the petition, has said that the 100 000 signature goal was “shattered”, largely because of the Cyrus family’s endorsement.

Public Enemy may not be the first band that you think of when you think of the phrase ‘rock n roll’ but the ground-breaking hip-hop group have been nominated as one of 2013’s potential inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Joel Peresman, the president and chief executive of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame spoke about the variety of this year’s list of nominees. “The definition of 'rock and roll' means different things to different people,” said Peresman, “but as broad as the classifications may be, they all share a common love of the music. This year we again proudly put forth a fantastic array of groups and artists that span the entire genre that is 'rock and roll.

Public Enemy are amongst a sub-group of nominees that are elected for the first time. Joining them are Deep Purple, Motown band The Marvelettes, NWA and Rush, amongst others. Returning candidates include Kraftwerk, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Donna Summer, Heart and Randy Newman. Donna Summer has been on the list five times before, though this is the first time since her death, this summer. Fellow disco pioneers Chic have been on the ballot six times previously, as well.

The final decision on who gets to enter the hallowed Hall of Fame is decided by a group of 600 members of the music industry, including musicians and music historians. Once the decision is made, the entries will be honored at a ceremony in Los Angeles on April 18, 2013.

Mayor Of The Sunset Strip Review

OK
Like most viewers of his documentary Mayor of the Sunset Strip, director George Hickenlooper (The Man From Elysian Fields), doesn't seem initially all that impressed with little Rodney Bingenheimer. A small, black-clad moppet with a Monkees haircut, Rodney may be this legendary DJ for Los Angeles alt-rock powerhouse KROQ, but how cool could he be? Then there's that scene early on when Rodney's taking us through his house, showing his walls of framed photographs and letters, some quite impressive, when he gets to Elvis's driver's license. You can hear Hickenlooper stop short and ask, "What? How did you get that?" Rodney says off-handedly, "Oh, he gave it to me," as though talking about somebody loaning him a dollar, before tottering away on his little matchstick legs.

To look at the life of Rodney is to look at a near-complete history of several decades of music. A shy kid from a broken home, Rodney left Mountain View, California, for Hollywood in the early 1960s and never really left. Quickly making himself at home on the Sunset Strip scene, Rodney surrounded himself with every kind of celebrity, especially from the music industry. One interviewee after another comments on his Andy Warhol-like blank demeanor that allows the famous and talented to see reflections of themselves. But there is also an eternally childlike innocence to him that was quickly picked up on: Cher, who practically adopted Rodney for a time with Sonny, talks about how you could just tell that Rodney never wanted anything from you, just to be there and absorb the glittery experience was enough. There's a sense of a kid trying to make up for his own fractured past with a famous family, and also just looking for someone to take care of him.
