Melissa said her family still remains hopeful after mother, Joan, placed in a medically induced coma

The 81 year-old star was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital after she stopped breathing during a minor throat procedure, and shortly after she was placed in a medically induced coma so doctors could conduct a full assessment of the damage, although they reportedly don't know how long she went without being able to breathe.

Even though the current situation looks very bleak, Joan's daughter Melissa Rivers released a statement on Sunday (Aug 31st) saying, "We are keeping our fingers crossed."
