The 80-year-old comic thinks she is obliged to look presentable at all times because of her role critiquing celebrities' clothes on E! show 'Fashion Police'.

Speaking on UK TV show 'Daybreak' on Tuesday (28.01.14), Joan said: ''How can I possibly make jokes about Rihanna if I'm looking like a piece of garbage? So even if I'm out walking my dogs I will try to look nice because people will try and stop you in the street and say I watch your show.''

The comedian - who has undergone a series of cosmetic surgery procedures - admits that when she isn't looking her best she will make excuses for her appearance.

She added: ''If I don't look good I will say, 'I've just come from the gym.'''

Joan appears on 'Fashion Police' with Kelly Osbourne, Giuliana Rancic and George Kotsiopoulos with the four hosts dissecting the style choices of the rich and famous.
