However, the Academy was once again on the receiving end of a harsh backlash after the late comedienne and actress Joan Rivers, who has interviewed countless stars at the Oscars over the years, was surprisingly left out of the annual segment.

On Monday (Feb 23th) Melissa Rivers, the iconic comedienne's daughter, has finally spoken out on her mother's controversial exclusion, but in a very classy manner she decided to not hold an resentment towards the Academy.

"It would have been nice, especially considering the impact she had on the awards season, but Cooper and I have been overwhelmed with support and love over my mom's passing and we choose to focus on that," she wrote in a post on her mother's Facebook page.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have also explained their decision to leave Rivers out of the 'In Memoriam' tribute via a statement released Monday. "Joan Rivers is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the In Memoriam segment of this year's Oscar show," the statement read. "She is, however, included in our In Memoriam gallery on Oscar.com."

On August 28th, 2014, Rivers was hospitalized for going into cardiac and respiratory arrest after stopping breathing during a minor throat procedure at the clinic.
