Harpist Joanna Newsom made her film debut in 'Inherent Vice' last year, playing the character of Sortilège opposite the likes of Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin. We caught up with her alongside co-star Jena Malone to find out their feelings on being in a film with such an esteemed actor as Phoenix, the magic behind Sortilege's character and what it's like for Newsom to transition into acting from making music.
Contactmusic: Jena, were you as surprised as we were by the scream Joaquin Phoenix let out in the scene where you show him a photograph?
Jena Malone: Yeah. I knew it was coming and I was still surprised. That's Joaquin; he just sort of creates moments of surprise continually.
Contactmusic: Did you pick a different picture to give him each time?
Jena Malone: The Polaroids, as life, just got pulled as they do. There was no way to plan it. You're just like, 'All right, this is the one.' But there were a few really choice Polaroids in there that I kept trying to slip him, but it wasn't always the right one.

Joanna Newsom makes her feature film acting debut in Paul Thomas Anderson's crime comedy 'Inherent Vice' and it seems there was no-one she could've better learned from than co-star Joaquin Phoenix.
Joanna Newsom plays onscreen narrator in 'Inherent Vice'
The 32-year-old multi-instrumentalist best known for her accomplishments in harp-playing is almost totally new to the world of acting. Aside from lending her voice to the English dubbing of Japanese animation 'The Sky Crawlers', making an appearance as a harpist (naturally) in an episode of 'Portlandia' and starring in MGMT's video for their single 'Kids', she has only ever found a creative outlet in music. That was until she landed the role of narrator Sortilege in Paul Thomas Anderson's adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's 2009 novel 'Inherent Vice'.

Andy Samberg and Joanna Newsom are officially wedded, with the couple of five-years finally tying the knot in a private ceremony on Saturday, 21 September. The two exchanged vows in front of friends and family at Big Sur, California with E! News officially confirming the news over the weekend.

The former-Saturday Night Live writer and performer and the acclaimed harpist and singer/songwriter have dated for around five years now and on Saturday they finally made things officially after their engagement was confirmed by Samberg in February this year. With family and friends invited, there were a few famous faces amongst the attendees at the ceremony, with Adam Sandler, Amy Poehler, Nick Kroll, Maya Rudolph and her partner Paul Thomas Anderson all reportedly in attendance.

Here's what to expect from Chicago's Pitchfork Music Festival this weekend (19th - 21st July 2013).
Pitchfork Music Festival is due to hit Chicago's Union Park again this weekend featuring some exciting headline sets from Bjork, Belle & Sebastian and R. Kelly.
Every summer this globally loved festival presents some 40 plus artists from all parts of the music spectrum, including both classic chart-toppers and new emerging talent, to 50,000 indie fans. They have been praised over their seven year existence for their cheap ticket prices and friendly atmosphere and that's not about to go any time soon. Apart from great live music on show for three days, there's some of the best indie vinyls for sale at the CHIRP Record Fair, some excellent posters and art-pieces about, as well as a craft fair and an array of musical books and magazines. It's not just for Stateside music fans though, the festival hits Europe for Pitchfork Music Festival Paris on October 31st, November 1st and November 2nd.
