DWAYNE 'THE ROCK' JOHNSON's hernia operation was a ''success''.

The actor-and-wrestler had to undergo emergency surgery on Monday (22.04.13) to treat a severe abdomen injury sustained during his 'WWE WrestleMania 29' match against John Cena earlier this month.

Dwayne tore his abdomen and abductor muscles off the bone during the encounter, but the procedure went well and he is now on the mend.

Writing on his Twitter account, accompanied by a photo of himself in his hospital bed wearing a Superman T-shirt, he said: ''Surgery a success! Dr repaired 3 hernial tears (fun pain). Superman is on the mend... #WeFallWeRise (sic)''

Due to his operation Dwayne, 40, had to miss the Los Angeles premiere of his latest film 'Pain & Gain' this week.

Director Michael Bay did attend the glitzy event and suggested it might be time for the star to step away from the ring and World Wrestling Entertainment.

Speaking on the red carpet, Bay said: ''He was pushing it too hard. He needs to grow up and stop wrestling 300 pound men.''

Dwayne - who has an 11-year-old daughter Simone Alexandra with his ex-wife Dany Garcia - is one of the most successful wrestlers of all-time. He lost the WWE Championship to Cena during their match at the sports entertainment extravaganza held at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on April 7.

He is due to start shooting 'Hercules: The Thracian Wars' in the next few weeks.
