Wrestling star John Cena has been hit with a lawsuit from car manufacturers Ford after he sold his new Ford GT supercar in apparent violation of a contract.

According to a report from TMZ on Thursday evening (November 30th), a lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court in Michigan claims that Cena violated a contract after he sold on his brand new 2017 Ford GT, valued at $500,000.

Ford claims that Cena was “selected from thousands of applicants for the opportunity to purchase the Ford GT” and entered into a contractual agreement to hold onto the car for at least two years before he could sell it on. However, they claim that as soon as the ‘American Grit’ star took receipt of the vehicle, he sold it.

“Mr. Cena has unfairly made a large profit from the unauthorized resale flip of the vehicle, and Ford has suffered additional damages and losses, including, but not limited to, loss of brand value, ambassador activity, and customer goodwill due to the improper sale,” the court documents reportedly read.

The lawsuit also reportedly states that he sold the car, along with other pieces of his property, in order to pay bills. However, Ford is demanding that he pay back the profits as well as damages.

The following day, Forbes speculated that the lawsuit’s inclusion of the assertion that Cena flipped the car in order to pay bills might indicate financial problems – despite him being one of the highest-earning celebrities in the field of entertainment.

The multiple-title-winning WWE star had an annual salary of $8 million in 2016, and over the last year or so has begun to make an impact as a Hollywood movie star. He holds down a cameo role in the recently released Daddy’s Home 2, which has already taken over $74 million since it came out, as will have a much more central role in the upcoming animated movie Ferdinand.
