At last, that animation we’ve all been waiting for: Monsters University. This is the prequel to the 2001 movie Monsters Inc. (yes, it has been that long…) and with Pixar mainstay Dan Scanlon in the director’s seat, the movie also stars John Goodman, Billy Crystal and Steve Buscemi, providing some of the main characters’ voices.

Here we see the monsters on a scaring course at university, years before they become bigwigs in the field of scaring. “Before they were incorporated,” reads the trailer’s intro titles, “they had to be educated.” Cut to a scene of all the monsters piling off of a university bus, luggage in tow, as they head off to settle into university life. Mike and Sulley aren’t the great friends that we know them as from the original movie, though, as Mike struggles to keep up with Sulley’s big hairy, monstrous persona and a natural competition between the two characters breaks out.

They soon figure out, though, that they make a great combination – with Mike’s intellect and Sulley’s muscle. There are some seriously funny moments in the trailer (we won’t spoil all of them, but you might want to keep an eye out for a snail trying to make it to class on time) and with a release scheduled for June 2013, we reckon Monsters University will be Pixar’s feel-good hit of the summer.
