The Elephant Man star, 75, was given the all-clear by doctors this week (begs12Oct15), and he announced the good news during an appearance at the Man Booker prize ceremony in London on Tuesday (14Oct15).

"I had a final scan and it's all gone brilliantly," he said, according to Britain's Daily Mail newspaper. "I had the final scan yesterday (Monday) and I saw my oncologist this morning... I am overjoyed, I am thrilled. It all looks great for the future, it's fantastic."

However, John also added he was cautious of using the word "remission".

The Alien actor announced his cancer battle in June (15) via a statement, which read, "I am undergoing treatment and am more than optimistic about a satisfactory outcome, as indeed is the medical team."

He continued to work, and told Britain's Radio Times magazine in August (15) he was still feeling positive about his health, adding, "I can't say I worry about mortality, but it's impossible to get to my age and not have a little contemplation of it... But my treatment is going terrifically well, so I'm optimistic."
