Harrison's stage-played Mastersound instrument and a guitar once owned by Eric Clapton are expected to be the big money items at the Julien's Auctions sale, but Lennon's bathrobe is also expected to fascinate bidders.

The garment is expected to go under the hammer at $10,000 (£6,670).

Other odd items up for grabs at the Music Icons Auction at the Hard Rock Cafe New York on 16 May (15) include Jimi Hendrix's ring, presented in a carved wooden box, Frank Sinatra's 1970s-1990s address book, Lady Gaga's stage-worn Latex bodysuit and Nat King Cole's favourite Sy Devore suit from 1961.
