Filmmaker John Singleton Has Been Handed A Legal Reprieve After A Judge Granted His Request To Have His Child Support Lowered.
The Boyz n the Hood director sued his ex-wife Akousia Busia earlier this year (15), claiming he could no longer afford the monthly $4,000 (£2,500) payments due to a loss of income.
According to Bossip.com, the 47 year old brings in $14,500 (£9,100) per month, but has financial obligations totalling $24,000 (£15,000). He also has three other children who reside with him.
Busia counter-sued Singleton, alleging he owes her $200,000 (£125,000) for their daughter's school tuition, but the monthly support has since been lowered to $2,100 (£1,312). The filmmaker will also have to pay $68,000 (£42,500) in back tuition, but will not be responsible for next year's (16) school payments.
The ruling reads: "The court finds there is a material change in circumstance regarding the child support order contained in the judgment entered March 18, 1998 and the modification of support entered January 28, 2002, based upon petitioner's decrease in income, and the amount of tuition now being paid for Hadar."
Singleton and Busia wed in 1996 and welcomed daughter Hadar Singleton in 1997. They divorced later that year.
