Actor John Stamos has avoided jail time after receiving a three-year suspended sentence for his DUI charge, it has emerged. The former ‘Full House’ star pleaded no contest to charge of driving under the influence of a drug after he was arrested in June this year.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office said on Tuesday (November 24th) that the 52 year old actor was ordered, as part of his sentence, to attend 52 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and to complete a three-month alcohol abuse programme, as well as two hours of addiction counselling.

Los Angeles County Superior Court handed down the sentence yesterday after being charged last month in connection with an incident on June 12th, when Stamos was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence when witnesses spotted him “behaving strangely and driving erratically” in Beverly Hills, California.

He did not appear in court during Tuesday’s hearing, entering his plea through his attorney, and received three years of summary probation on his sentence. A plea of ‘no contest’ means that the defendant neither disputes nor admits the charges, but allows the court to treat the case as a criminal conviction from that point onwards.

The substance involved in the arrest was not commented upon by the DA’s Office, as it was not brought up during the case.

Stamos is currently the star of Fox TV sitcom ‘Grandfathered’ and is best known for his long-running role as Jesse in ‘Full House’ from 1987 to 1995. It was announced earlier this year that he’ll be reprising that part in ‘Fuller House’, the Netflix-only series that’s currently filming and due to come out in 2016.
