Netflix has ordered 13 episodes of the Full House revival Fuller House, with the vast majority of the original cast likely to return. The new incarnation will premiere on the streaming service in 2016 and will pick up with D.J Tanner-Fuller employed as a vet, pregnant and widowed in San Francisco.

Fuller House will star Candace Cameron-Bure as D.J, Jodie Sweetin as Stephanie and Andrea Barber as Kimmy Gibbler. John Stamos - who made the announcement on Monday's Jimmy Kimmel Live - will return as Uncle Jesse while talks are underway with fellow original stars Bob Saget, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Dave Coulier and Lori Loughlin.

In the new show, Stephanie is now an aspiring musician and single-mother Kimmy moves in to help take care of D.J's two boys. 

The series originally aired on ABC from 1987 to 1995 and was regarded as one of the most popular shows on TV.

"The continued support of  Full House fans of all ages for the last 28 years has been astounding," producers Jeff Franklin, Robert L. Boyett and Thomas L. Miller said in a joint statement confirming the news. "It is an honor and a thrill to catch up with these beloved characters and explore their lives today. The love you saw on the show was real. The cast has remained a loving family off screen all these years. We are as excited as our fans to finally bring Full House back to life."

Fuller House is the latest in a long string of revivals cropping up on TV. NBC recently ordered a straight-to-series of Coach while Fox has committed to a new six-episode event series for The X-Files with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
