John Williams proved to be an excellent sport when two musicians showed up outside his house to serenade him with 'Star Wars'.

Composer John Williams is being honoured with a Lifetime Achievement award by the American Film Institute. The five-time Academy Award winner, who scored the soundtracks to Star Wars, Jaws, Schindler's List and E.T. among many others, will received the award at a ceremony on June 9th, 2016.

He won his Oscars for the four movies listed above and for his adaptation of the original song score for Fiddler On the Roof, and has been nominated an additional 44 times – the most Oscar nods for any living person. It’s the first time in the AFI’s history that the prestigious honour will be bestowed upon a composer. The inaugural Lifetime Achievement award was given in 1973 to director John Ford.

DreamWorks Pictures has announced Bridge of Spies as the title of Steven Spielberg's upcoming Cold War thriller, which will reunite the director with actor Tom Hanks after nearly a decade. But the film will sadly be without a Spielberg movie staple, as it is the first in 30 years not to feature a score by composer John Williams.

Announcing the film’s title on Wednesday, DreamWorks Pictures also revealed via a statement that 83 year old Williams had been forced to pull out of the movie due to a health issue.

The iconic Star Wars theme was voted by BBC Radio 3 listeners as the UKs favourite from a selection of twenty classics. Star Wars dominated nearly a quarter of the vote, with Ennio Morricone's The Good, The Bad and the Ugly coming in second. Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story was third.

Last Saturday (27 July), John Williams became the latest name to be tied down to the upcoming re-boot of the beloved Star Wars franchise. The composer, who has written the score for all six of the movies so far, was confirmed as a contributor by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy during a Star Wars fan convention in Essen, Germany, with an interview with Williams emerging online soon after on the oficial Star Wars YouTube page.

The film's confirmed director Jj Abrams had already indicated earlier this year that he hoped to have Williams return for the latest reboot of the franchise, which is expected to arrive in cinemas by summer 2015, and now with the weekend's announcement it looks as though Abrams' first wish as director has become reality.

There is still an air of apprehension surrounding the planned re-boot of the Star Wars franchise - which is now owned by Disney - however a recent interview with the great John Williams has given fans something to be a little less cautious about, as he has signed on to score the soundtrack for the seventh instalment of the sci-fi movie series. In a video interview posted on to the official Star Wars YouTube page on Saturday (July 27), the composer pledged his commitment to the franchise for at least one more film, as he also detailed his own love of George Lucas' beloved sci-fi epic.

The five-time Oscar winner, who won one of his golden statuettes in 1977 for his work on A New Hope, the first movie released from the series, said that he is working on the score for the upcoming film as he plans on maintaining his healthy relationship with the long-running series. Williams is the latest returnee slated to feature as part of JJ Abram's upcoming reboot, with original stars Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and Harrison Ford (Han Solo) all rumoured to be returning to the franchise. The Empire Strikes Back writer Lawrence Kasdan has also been announced as a returnee, taking on the role of creative consultant for the film, with Lucas himself said to be involved in the filming to ensure it adheres to his own vision of the galxay far, far away. Williams and his other returnees will be working on a script that is being penned by Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3), with the film expected for a summer 2015 release.

The new Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, an indoor Jacobean counterpart to Shakespeare's Globe, will open to the public on January 9, 2014 with a season of plays, opera and one-off concerts. The opening of the visually stunning venue completes the vision of actor, producer and director Sam Wanamaker  first conceived for the Shakespeare's Globe complex in 1949.

According to The Guardian, the small 340-capacity theatre will host the company's winter plays as well as other events throughout the year. It will be lit almost entirely by candles. The grisly tragedy The Duchess of Malfi will open the season on January 9, directed by the Globe's artistic director Dominic Dromgoole, followed by Francis Beamont's satire The Knight of The Burning Pestle, which opens on February 20, 2012.
