JK Rowling Defends Johnny Depp Casting Decision For 'Fantastic Beasts' Sequel

Jk Rowling Johnny Depp

Jk Rowling has stood by the decision to cast Johnny Depp in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts sequel, following a concerted backlash from fans regarding the circumstances of Depp’s divorce from his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The 52 year old Harry Potter author took to her personal website to issue a statement about the matter on Thursday (December 7th). She said that the film’s producers had considered re-casting the role of villain Gellert Grindelwald for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, set to come out this time next year.

However, Rowling said that the circumstances surrounding Depp’s divorce from Amber Heard last summer – alleged to have included domestic violence – were private and ought to be respected.

While most 'Fantastic Beasts' fans love to see Johnny Depp playing Gellert Grindelwald, there are still a great many who are seriously unimpressed with his inclusion in the film's cast. Jk Rowling is tired of having to defend the decision, and apparently even blocked the latest fan to ask her about it.

Since Amber Heard claimed that Johnny Depp was violent towards her while they were married, a lot of people have been downright enraged that he hasn't been penalised for the accusations. Despite the fact that Amber later dropped the claims, people still believe that Johnny should not be allowed to star in 'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them'.

'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald' Director Defends Johnny Depp Casting

When it was revealed Johnny Depp would be returning to the 'Fantastic Beasts' movie series in next year's big screen instalment, his fans were excited to see him take on the role of the titular character, Gellert Grindelwald. A vocal portion of potential viewers however were disappointed to see him take the job, after accusations back in 2016 from his ex-wife Amber Heard, who claimed Depp had been physically abusive to her during their relationship.

In August, 2016, the couple's divorce was settled and the domestic abuse case Heard had against Depp was resolved, with a joint statement released by the actors saying that the relationship was "intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love". It continued that "there was never an intent of physical or emotional harm", adding that "neither party has made false accusations for financial gains."

'Fantastic Beasts' Fans Object To Johnny Depp's Casting After Abuse Allegations

Johnny Depp

Fans of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films are calling for producers to replace Johnny Depp in the forthcoming second film, because of allegations of domestic abuse levelled against him last year.

A number of social media users voiced their disagreement with the choice of casting Depp as Grindelwald for the upcoming sequel, titled The Crimes of Grindelwald, which will focus much more on Depp’s character.

The 54 year old actor had only a brief cameo appearance in the first film when it was released in November 2016, but details this week of the second film had fans up in arms when Depp was cast again.

Murder On The Orient Express Review

Very Good

The latest adaptation of Agatha Christie's 83-year-old classic whodunit, this lavish, star-studded film is old-style entertainment. Director-star Kenneth Branagh lets the story unfold with attention to detail while filling the screen with eye-catching images, from the spectacular mountain settings to the opulent costumes. And while the story is too familiar to stir up too much suspense, it's played with a strong sense of emotional resonance. And the moral question is provocative.

The Orient Express sets off from 1934 Istanbul with a colourful collection of passengers. A last-minute addition is noted detective Hercule Poirot (Branagh), who has just solved a thorny mystery in Jerusalem and is now heading to London. Even though he shouldn't be working, he begins to weigh up the odd collection of passengers around him, including a gangster (Johnny Depp), countess (Judi Dench), widow (Michelle Pfeiffer), governess (Daisy Ridley), maid (Olivia Colman), salesman (Wille Dafoe), assistant (Josh Gad), butler (Derek Jacobi) and doctor (Leslie Odom Jr.). Then in the middle of the night, one of them is violently murdered. And when the train becomes lodged in a snowdrift, Poirot has the time to dig further into each person's clearly suspicious back-story.

According to another new filing by the management firm on Thursday (July 20th) reported by multiple outlets including People, 54 year old Depp used a company card given to him to go on a huge spending spree of “worthless chatzki” and personal memorabilia, including $7,000 to buy and store a couch from ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ for his daughter Lily-Rose’s birthday.

Johnny Depp E-mails Show He Was In Debt In 2009

Johnny Depp

New leaked e-mails show that Johnny Depp was more than £3 million in debt approximately eight years ago, despite being one of the world’s best-paid actors at the time.

The 54 year old Pirates of the Caribbean star is currently suing his former business managers for about £22 million, alleging that they mishandled his earnings for the best part of two decades. They, in turn, are refuting Depp’s claims and say that his financial mishaps are down to his lavish spending.

However, a new e-mail thread dating from December 2009, revealed in court documents obtained by Deadline that were filed in a Los Angeles court on Monday (June 19th), show that the managers were warning Depp about his spending eight years ago.

Brenton Thwaites Enjoyed Johnny Depp's Irreverent Approach

Brenton Thwaites Johnny Depp

After growing up with the franchise, 27-year-old Australian actor Brenton Thwaites is the latest new cast member joining the Pirates of the Caribbean gang. In Dead Men Tell No Tales, he plays the son of Will and Elizabeth (Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley). So to prepare for the role, he rewatched all four movies.

"I remember seeing the first one when I was a teenager," Thwaites says. "And I've been a fan of the franchise ever since, so it's good to be a part of one! I think it's popular because of the freedom. It's a fantasy to just get a boat and sail out into the ocean. Pirates don't have rules."

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Review

Weak

Subtitled Salazar's Revenge in the UK, this fifth film in the long-running series never quite gets its sea legs. With a waterlogged script and a startlingly murky production design, this is the first movie in the franchise that lacks a sense of swashbuckling merriment. It's lively enough to keep the audience watching, but it never quite makes any sense because any sensible details are lost amid the chaotic action sequences.

It opens with Henry (Brenton Thwaites), son of franchise veterans Will and Elizabeth (Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley in cameos), who is on a quest to free his father from his watery imprisonment. For this he needs Poseidon's trident, which only Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) can find with his magical compass. Except that Jack has swapped the compass to buy some whiskey. Then Will meets the feisty Carina (Kaya Scodelario), who's star-reading skills will come in handy. But the vengeful Salazar (Javier Bardem) is also after the compass and the trident, hoping to reverse his own ghostly curse. And as things heat up, Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) dives into the pursuit as well.

What follows is a series of set-pieces in which these various factions scuffle for control of people and artefacts that can lead them in their quests for power. They all talk incessantly about the elaborately complex mythology, but it never makes any sense why each person knows only fragments of the lore. And it's also not easy to hear what they're shouting amid the general chaos of yet another epically choreographed fight scene. Thankfully, the actors are hammy enough to stand out from the sea of digital effects that fill the screen.

Lawsuit Suggests "Jealous" Johnny Depp Removed Amber Heard From Film Over Sex Scenes

Johnny Depp Amber Heard

A new lawsuit has claimed that an “extremely jealous” Johnny Depp ordered his ex-wife Amber Heard to pull out of a film because of her prospective involvement in sex scenes.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star’s name has been dragged into a contractual dispute between the producers of the stalled film London Fields, who are suing Heard for $10 million for failing to act in or promote the movie. Heard, in turn, is counter-suing the producers over accusations that she was the victim of sexploitation, with her sex scenes being shot with a body double instead.

The rather sensational claims come as part of an ‘answer’ filing made the film’s chief producer, Christopher Hanley, replying to Heard’s counterclaims.

Script Writer Claims Johnny Depp "Set Aside" His 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' Script Idea Because It Contained A Female Villain

Johnny Depp

A screenwriter for the lucrative Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise has claimed that his script idea for the forthcoming fifth instalment Dead Men Tell No Tales was rejected by the movie’s star Johnny Depp, on the basis that it featured a female villain.

Writer Terry Rossio, who has credits on all five of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, has written on his personal blog this weekend that he believes his proposal for Dead Men Tell No Tales – which is known as Salazar’s Revenge outside of the U.S. – was “set aside” by the Disney studio because Depp wasn’t happy with the idea of a female villain, because of a previous film he had worked on called Dark Shadows.

Johnny Depp Hits Back At Financial Irresponsibility Claims From Former Management Group

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp has fired back at his former management team after they claimed that the Hollywood megastar is himself responsible for being reportedly $40 million in debt, responding to a lawsuit the star had filed alleging fraud and negligence in managing his fortune.

The argument centres on a lawsuit that Depp, 53, filed back in January this year for $25 million, claiming that The Management Group handled his affairs so badly that he was approximately $40 million in debt, alleging that they failed to file his taxes in timely fashion and took out high-interest loans on his behalf.

Pirates Of The Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales (Salazar's Revenge) - Featurette and Trailer

It seems Captain Jack Sparrow has been sailing the seas as a pirate for many, many years, and in that time he's made a lot of enemies. As a young trouble-maker, he damned a pirate-hating adversary and his crew to a seabound immortality - and now Captain Salazar has returned to exact his revenge. Panic is afoot when it becomes clear that Captain Salazar has escaped his eternal torment at the bottom of the Devil's Triangle, and as much as Jack loves an adventure almost as much as he loves rum, this time he could truly be out of his depth. It will take more than his trusty compass to help him this time, but thankfully he has the help of a new headstrong maiden named Carina Smyth who happens to be a skilled astronomer, plus the return of his old friend Will Turner. Together they must uncover the Trident of Poseidon before Salazar does, and send the enemy back to their watery graves.
