Amber Heard has filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, a little over 15 months after they were married.

The 30 year old is said to have submitted the petition for divorce on Monday (May 23rd), citing irreconcilable difference with her 52 year old husband. Furthermore, she is believed to be seeking spousal support, and the couple apparently did not make a pre-nuptial agreement before they tied the knot in February 2015.

To protect his reputed $400 million net worth, which dwarves that of Heard’s, Depp has reportedly hired top divorce lawyer, Laura Wasser, who filed a legal response on the Pirates of the Caribbean star’s behalf on Wednesday, according to TMZ.

The split comes just a few days after the death of Depp’s mother, Betty Sue Palmer, on May 20th from a long illness.

The pair have been in and out of the headlines for most of the last year, regarding the bizarre ‘dog smuggling’ incident in Australia when Heard was accused of bringing the couple’s two Yorkshire terriers, Pistol and Boo, into the country without submitting the correct documentation.

Australia’s agriculture minister, and now deputy prime minister, Barnaby Joyce triggered a war of words when he said the two dogs should “b****r off” back to the States within 50 hours or be euthanised. Heard was due in court earlier this year, but the charges were dropped when she and Depp made an incredibly awkward apology video – which Depp claimed this week wasn’t sincere.

Speaking previously about their relationship, Depp claimed that Heard got “into his head” and that “we tracked each other down. Actually, incidentally, it was amazing. It was at the first day of press on The Rum Diary. Then we married that very day!”

Depp split from his partner of 14 years, and the mother of his two children Lily-Rose and Jack, Vanessa Paradis in 2012. Before that, he was married to make-up artist Lori Anne Allison from 1983 to 1985.
