Johnny Depp has all but confirmed that he is engaged to actress Amber Heard as he showed off a shiny new ring at the Japanese Transcendence premiere today (31st March). It is strongly believed that the Pirates of the Caribbean star and his The Rum Diary co-star are preparing to tie the knot but there have been no official announcements yet.

The 50 year-old actor came close to confirming the news today, indirectly stating that the ring on his finger meant an engagement. Asked about whether he and 27 year-old Heard were engaged, Depp replied "The fact that I'm wearing a chick's ring on my finger is probably a dead giveaway. Not very subtle." He laughed as he lifted up his left hand and displayed a single diamond on a band around his ring finger, according to the AP.

In another slightly vague comment, Depp alluded to marriage, revealing "I think that I would be better at making women's shoes than I would be at wedding planning, I can't plan anything. I'm really bad at that stuff." He and Heard met when they were filming the Hunter S. Thompson adaptation, The Rum Diary, in Puerto Rico in 2009. In 2012, Depp split with his partner of 14 years, French model-singer Vanessa Paradis, with whom the actor has two children. It is believed that Depp started dating Heard not long after the split.

Depp's New Movie Sees Him Uploaded To A Supercomputer, Giving Him Some Pretty Neat Skills.

His new movie, Transcendence, sees him in his first sci-fi role to date. He plays a genius scientist whose brain is uploaded to a supercomputer to save his mind from death, which gives him more power than any mortal could dream of. Speaking at the premiere, Depp spoke about how the movie's chilling sci-fi premise is actually rooted in love: "It's one of those films that one person is forced to make a choice in an instant, when your loved one is dying and you have a split-second decision if you have the ability to upload their consciousness into a computer, would you do that? It's quite a strange decision to make but for love I think we would all do it," he said.

Looks like someone has been struck by cupid! Transcendence will be released on the 17th April in the USA and on the 25th April in the UK.
