Johnny Depp appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman on Thursday night (4th April) and discussed his engagement to actress and model Amber Heard. In a recent Interview with Today, Depp further discussed their relationship and praised Heard as "wonderful" and "very good for me."

Johnny Depp's interview with Letterman was dominated with conversation about his engagement and particularly his jewellery as Depp has been wearing, for the last week, a large diamond ring.

Letterman questioned Depp on his large diamond ring to which the 50-year-old admitted "I do, I have a female engagement ring." Letterman further quizzed Depp on his choice to wear an engagement ring which was "not typical for a man." Appearing Jack Sparrow-esque as he explained the ring had been intended for his fiancée, Amber Heard, to which Letterman expressed his surprise and after digressing momentarily, asked "nobody knows anyone's finger size do they?" 

Letterman's polite incredulity was not abated until Depp confirmed Heard did have an engagement ring of her own. Letterman asked Depp why no one has commented before on the engagement ring which has been the focus of paparazzi attention since he appeared wearing it in Japan whilst promoting his new movie Transcendence. Depp replied he believes "people are scared to comment. Why is a grown man wearing a woman's engagement ring?"

Letterman also asked Depp about his relationship with Heard's father.  Depp claimed he and Heard's father, David, have a "great" relationship, adding "he's about the closest thing to Hunter S. Thompson I've ever met."

Whilst in a recent interview with Today, Depp praised his 27-year-old fiancé as "wonderful" and claimed "she's sharp as a tack. A southern belle and sweet as can be, and very good for me." The couple met whilst filming The Rum Diary, a film based on the novel by the aforementioned Hunter S. Thompson, in 2011. They have been dating since 2012, mere months after Depp separated from his partner of 14 years Vanessa Paradis.
