It's no secret Johnny Depp is set to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of '21 Jump Street', although speculation that the Hollywood star has a substantial role, rather than an assumed cameo, is beginning to intensify.
Actor Jake Johnson, who plays the principal in the movie, tells E! Online he is under strict orders to keep details of Depp's role a secret, although he explained, "It's more than just a moment". The remark has led some to believe Johnny is set to reprise his role as 'Tom Hanson', the undercover high school student he played in the original 1980's television series. Johnson further fuelled the speculation after admitting he was looking to land Depp's role himself, saying, "It's a really fun part and I went to my agent afterwards .I was like...I think I've got a really good shot. And he goes, for which character? .and I said the character and he goes, yeah, you know, that's Johnny Depp's part if he wants it". Exploring similar themes to the television series, the upcoming movie will star Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, who form part of a youthful police unit specialising in youth crime.
Shortly after wrapping up filming on 'Jump Street', Johnny Depp told Entertainment Weekly, "It might be difficult to spot me in this one right off the bat. I'll be a little...different". Fans of the series now wait anxiously for details of the Hollywood star's role.
