Rocker Jon Bon Jovi has opened a new charity restaurant to help fight hunger in New Jersey.
Soul Kitchen welcomed customers in the borough of Red Bank for the first time on Wednesday (19Oct11).
The diner features a pay-what-you-can system, which allows patrons to offer up the amount of cash they feel is appropriate to cover their meal. Customers who don't have money to contribute can instead lend a hand with cleaning duties.
Bon Jovi's Soul Foundation will subsidise the location to keep the property afloat.
The musician will be heavily involved in the project, but behind the scenes - because he simply "can't cook".
He tells the Associated Press, "Last Friday, I was at the White House, serving on the Council for Community Solutions, got on a train, changed in the bathroom and got here in time to wash dishes Friday night. I'm the dishwasher, for real. I can't cook a lick."
