Jon Hamm has moved to reassure fans that he is absolutely, one-hundred-per-cent, categorically not dying of cancer. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week, the Mad Men actor clarified what's going on with his health.

"I've got a polyp on my vocal cord," a raspy, bearded Hamm, 42, told the host, "It sounds worse than it is, although it doesn't sound as bad as how the National Enquirer reported it, which was that I was coughing up blood and probably have cancer.

"That's good to put that out there. Thanks, guys. Thanks a lot," he joked. "Because, you know, I cough up blood . . . never!"

The infamous tabloid magazine had reported, "MAD MEN star JON HAMM is facing a terrifying health scare after a close source says he recently started coughing up blood!"

The actor, who plays ad executive Don Draper on AMC's Mad Men, is to begin filming the show's seventh and final season on November 4, 2013.

"I've gotten sort of broad strokes as to how it will end," he said of the finale, which will be split into two parts and premiere in spring 2014. "[Creator Matthew Weiner] has a very specific idea as to what he wants to do."

"Why won't he tell you how it will end?" Kimmel asked, to which Hamm quipped, "Because he likes it to be a secret. I'm actually okay with that.We don't know how our lives will end. I apparently will die of cancer - according to the National Enquirer - soon."

The 42-year-old lost out to Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom) for best actor at Sunday's Emmy Awards, though Hamm was typically gracious during an interview with the Associated Press after the ceremony,

"I'm OK with the results. I'm super happy that Jeff won. I think his work is phenomenal," he said, "I'm unabashed in my fandom for television so I had a great Emmys. I like going there and seeing a bunch of people and seeing my friends and it was fun. I got to present with Alec Baldwin. How fun is that?"
