For some, the Toronto Film Festival is a great experience; they meet loads of people and see a bunch of great movies. For others, the event means plenty of review writing, lots of travel and not much sleep.

Jon StewartJon Stewart wields an Emmy

For Jon Stewart, it’s none of the above. But it will entail pitching his new movie to select foreign buyers and sharing footage. Rosewater –Stewart’s directorial debut – is an adaptation of Maziar Bahari and Aimee Molloy's memoir: "Then They Came for Me: A Family's Story of Love, Captivity and Survival" – a New York Times bestseller. The film will cover Bahari's 2009 arrest in Iran where he was covering an election protest.

Stewart returned to Comedy Central's The Daily Show this week after a summer-long absence, in which time, correspondent John Oliver filled the anchor chair for eight weeks. "For all that I appreciate and learned about the culture that I was immersed in, boy, I'm Western, in all its glorious, decadent imperfections," he said of his jaunt. "I recall driving back to New York City thinking, 'Hello dildo shop near a school.’ (L.A Times)

His return was triumphant, but he missed a lot of important things, like: the possibility of military action in Syria following a chemical weapons attack by Bashar Al-Assad, the royal baby and Sharknado. Oliver did a standout job of replacing the seemingly irreplaceable Stewart, but everyone feels that little bit more comfortable now that he’s back in his chair.
