The sequel reunites the old cast for a reason.
'Trainspotting' returns this week after 21 long years with 'T2 Trainspotting'; a sequel loosely based on Irvine Welsh's follow-up book 'Porno'. With this long-anticipated new project, we see the return of director Danny Boyle, as well as all the main actors from the original movie led by Jonny Lee Miller.
Jonny Lee Miller was glad to be back on the set of 'Trainspotting'
It's not always easy to get stars back for late sequels, let alone the whole cast, especially when there's a huge disparity between their age then and their age now. So what is it about 'Trainspotting' that attracted the likes of Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller and Ewen Bremner back to their 20-something-year-old personas?

Mark Renton urges 'choose life' with Danny Boyle sequel.
The iconic Scottish black comedy saga continues with the sequel to the gritty, Oscar nominated 1996 film 'Trainspotting'. 'T2: Trainspotting' is set a decade after the first film and reunites the whole cast along with director Danny Boyle ('Steve Jobs', 'Slumdog Millionaire') and original screenwriter John Hodge ('Trance', 'The Beach').
Ewan McGregor returns in 'T2: Trainspotting'
Released 20 years after the first movie which explored the hard drug scene of Edinburgh, 'T2: Trainspotting' is loosely based on the 2002 novel 'Porno' by Irvine Welsh - the sequel to his 1993 book 'Trainspotting' which explores the characters lives with porn as the main theme instead of heroin. Each of the characters in the original movie cross paths once again with all the original stars, including Irvine Welsh himself who returns in the cameo role of Mikey Forrester.
It’s been nearly 20 years since the original film starring Ewan McGregor and Robert Carlyle was released.
Director Danny Boyle has said he plans to begin shooting the long awaited Trainspotting sequel next summer. If all goes to plan Boyle hopes that the film will then hit cinemas later in 2016, in time for the original film’s 20th anniversary.
Danny Boyle hopes to begin shooting Trainspotting sequel next year.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Boyle said that the shoot was planned for “May/June” 2016, but added that it all depends on Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle’s shooting schedules. Both actors are currently tied up with television commitments in the US, with Carlyle starring in ‘Once Upon A Time’ and Miller in ‘Elementary’.

The sequel will be adapted from Irvine Welsh's follow-up novel 'Porno', and will feature Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Jonny Lee Miller and Ewan Bremner.
With five months to go until the classic original movie celebrates its twentieth anniversary, Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle has confirmed that all four of the main cast members of Trainspotting are on board to make a sequel.
Boyle, who was speaking at the Telluride Film Festival ahead of the first-ever screening of the Steve Jobs biopic project he helped to save from oblivion, also announced that the screenplay for the sequel (adapted from Irvine Welsh’s 2002 novel ‘Porno’) had already been written by John Hodge, who was nominated for an Oscar for his work on the first movie in 1997.

As part of the Paleyfest Made In NY event, the Paley Center for Media unveil a screening for crime drama 'Elementary' which has recently begun its second season.
'Lucky Number Slevin' star Luvy Liu and 'Eli Stone' star Jonny Lee Miller are snapped filming a scene on the set of their modern Sherlock Holmes TV series 'Elementary'. The pair are seen sat beside each other on a bench in the middle of Manhattan while Jonny gesticulates wildly.
Nearly 20 years after Interview With the Vampire, Neil Jordan returns to the genre to breath some new life into a mythology that has grown stale, predictable and rather mopey (see Twilight). With a lively script by Buffini, Jordan creates a lushly stylish dramatic thriller that continually takes us aback with off-beat storytelling and complex characters who don't always do what we expect them to.
The story centres on mother-daughter immortals Clara and Eleanor (Arterton and Ronan), who are on the run when they arrive in a fading British seaside town. The resourceful Clara seduces the nervous Noel (Mays) so they can stay in his dilapidated Byzantium guesthouse. To earn some cash, the always resourceful Clara turns the empty rooms into a brothel. Meanwhile, Eleanor befriends the fragile young Frank (Jones) and reveals the fact that she and her mother are actually more than 200 years old and need human blood to survive. Through all of this, they're being chased by two elder vampires, the ruthless Ruthven (Miller) and the more sympathetic Darvell (Riley), both of whom share a tangled romantic past with Clara.
Unusually intelligent, the film holds our interest with an astonishing series of twists and turns plus an array of colourful characters that play on stereotypes. Holding it all together is a fairly simple plot that reveals itself in bits and pieces until the full picture comes into focus. From this point, we pretty much know what has to happen in the big finale, but watching events unfold is satisfying and sometimes both thrilling and moving.

Among the CBS TV show actors arriving at the network's 2013 Upfront Presentation in New York were Sharon Osbourne from 'The Talk' (who doesn't refrain from her usual face-pulling shenanigans) and the cast of 'How I Met Your Mother' Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan.
Clara and Eleanor are a mother and daughter, born two centuries ago as vampires and surviving only on the blood of mortal beings. They escape to an English seaside town and are taken into an abandoned guesthouse by the owner, Noel. While Clara takes on a job as a lady of the night who drains the blood from her clients, Eleanor has dreams of being a writer, chronicling her life as a vampire in pages that she usually scatters in the wind. It isn't long before they are discovered, both by the mortal people of the town and by The Brotherhood; an all-male vampire organisation that seek to find and kill Clara. Eleanor meets a boy called Frank, who she develops feelings for and spills the secrets of her world to, angering her mother who fears for their safety. As knowledge of their existence spreads further and further, they are forced to confront their past and the deadly secrets that come with it.

Danny Boyle has confirmed he is working on a sequel to Trainspotting.
Ewan McGregor's Renton famously announced that he hadn't "felt that good since Archie Gemmill scored against Holland in 1978!" in Danny Boyle's classic Trainspotting in 1996. Now, two decades later, we could find ourselves checking in with the Glasgow addict again, though we doubt he's be feeling particularly euphoric about the state of Scottish football in recent years. After several false starts, filmmaker Boyle says a script for a Trainspotting sequel is in progress, based on Irvine Walsh's 2002 novel Porno. The Manchester-born director - who helmed the Olympic Games opening ceremony in London before turning down a Knighthood from the Queen - is planning to release the new film in 2016, on the 20th anniversary of the original.
"This has been a long time coming," the Oscar winning director told Canadian film website The Playlist. "There's always been this long term plan for Trainspotting 2." Encouragingly, Boyle believes the original cast could be re-assembled to play middle-aged versions of their characters, including McGregor. "I don't think there will be any barriers to Ewan or any of the cast coming back. The reason for doing it again is that people cherish the original, people remember it or have caught up with it if they never saw it because they were younger," the filmmaker added.
It's likely that McGregor has been offered various unsavoury Trainspotting-linked projects in the past, though a sequel with Boyle at the helm will no doubt be too good to turn down. The Scottish actor has forged a hugely successful career since the movie, though he's perhaps guilty of taking big money mainstream roles over anything particularly challenging. Another stab at Renton could change that.
