Never mind 'pop will eat itself;' television seems to be doing a good job of it, too. Today, The Guardian announced that Sky have bought the UK rights to the US TV show Elementary, starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. For those not in the know, Elementary is a US take on the modern British TV series, Sherlock, about Sherlock Holmes. And now it's been bought up for a UK audience.
The CBS show Elementary has already caused controversy for following the BBC's idea of a modern take on the classic Sherlock Holmes story but has set itself apart by casting a woman (Lucy Liu) in the role of Sherlock's trusty sidekick, Watson. The drama, which also stars Aidan Quinn, is scheduled to start airing on Sky Living in the autumn. In the deal, Sky also bought another Cbs show, Vegas, starring Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis. The show tells the true story of a rodeo cowboy "charged with bringing order to Las Vegas in the 1960s."
They've also bought up The Following, starring Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy. The thriller is one of two shows that Sky have purchased from Warner Bros. The second was Arrow, a superhero adaptation of DC Comics' Green Arrow, made for a modern audience and starring Stephen Amell of The Vampire Diaries. Vegas and The Following have been snapped up for Sky Atlantic and Arrow will air on Sky 1.
