La Vida Robot Trailer


NASA are sponsoring a highly esteemed robotics competition, where students from various schools compete to build a robot that can perform underwater. When four Mexican-American high school kids from Phoenix, Arizona decide to go for it, their parents and teachers are sceptical given that the previous year's winners was a highly funded project at M.I.T. They have very little money indeed, a little under a thousand dollars, but they have a wealth of determination and drive that brings them together to build a fully-functioning and innovative machine made simply from used car parts - despite their lack of technological experience. They may have the guts and the ambition to succeed in such a prestigious event, but the question is whether the judges will see that and value their project based on the heart and soul that has gone into it.

A Better Life Review


Good
This low-key but extremely emotional drama is packed with important themes. And it knows it. While the story and characters are hugely involving, the script falters by trying to touch on every aspect of the situation.

Mexican gardener Carlos (Bichir) has lived illegally in Los Angeles since before his 14-year-old son Luis (Julian) was born. When he gets a chance to buy his own truck, and thereby start his own business, he starts to dream of moving to a better neighbourhood to protect Luis from gang influences. But he also worries that if he gets pulled over for any minor offence, he'll be deported and separated from his son. And when his truck is stolen, he knows he has to take action, whatever the cost.

A Better Life Trailer


Carolos Galindo, an illegal immigrant and single parent, moved to the U.S. to chase the American Dream, bringing his teenage son, Luis, with him. Carolos spent what little money he had to work as a gardener and hopes to make a career out of it and eventually pay off his debts. He also hopes to make a better life for himself and Luis, by enrolling him in high school and keeping themselves out of poverty.
