Chips Review

Terrible

It's clear from the very start that this movie has little to do with the 1977-1983 beloved hit TV series. Firstly, the film ignores the capitalisation that would make sense of the title. And the main characters, while they have familiar names, are completely different people. So fans of the show will be justifiably angry that it has been merely referenced to make a half-hearted mash-up of The Hangover and Fast & Furious. Which might not be a bad idea if the gross-out comedy was funny and the action was even remotely thrilling.

In this version, Poncharello is the undercover name assigned to a Miami FBI agent (Michael Pena) who is sent to Los Angeles to investigate a string of armoured car robberies that might involve dirty cops. He is partnered with officer Jon Baker (Dax Shepard) riding motorcycles with the California Highway Patrol (they're CHiPs, not Chips). Jon is a former hotshot off-road motorbike champ who has broken every bone in his body and has only joined the police to try to win back his estranged, monstrous wife (Kristen Bell). But he's such a high-energy idiot that he's starting the job on probation. As their case develops, it's instantly clear that the mastermind is the villainous officer Kurtz (Vincent D'Onofrio). And their investigation is complicated by the arrival of Ponch's FBI boss (Isiah Whitlock Jr.) and partner (Adam Brody).

The lazy script never tries to crank up any real mystery or tension in the plot. Instead, the film is just a series of smutty jokes and incoherent stunt sequences, plus running gags that never reach a punchline. All of this is infused with relentless sexism, as the camera leers shamelessly at every woman. And the laddish misogyny is accompanied by constant homophobia, which is addressed in the dialogue in a feeble attempt to undercut the baldfaced bigotry. This makes all of the characters resolutely unlikeable. Ponch and Jon are such self-absorbed jerks that it's inconceivable that they would ever be allowed to be policemen.

Bit Weird? Josh Duhamel Wanted To 'Knock Fergie Up' After First Date

Fergie Josh Duhamel

Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie is midway through her first pregnancy, though turned out at the NewNowNext Awards on Saturday night (April 13, 2013) and spent time chatting with the press about how she's getting on. "I'm starting the nesting period. That is what's happening now," the soon-to-be first-time mom told People magazine.

"Let's put it this way: I am going through about five rooms right now, and there are changes that need to be made. My husband [Josh Duhamel] goes, 'Oh, you're in the nesting period? I've heard about this." Fergie is also experiencing one rather undesirable side to being pregnant: mood swings, "But I'm not going into that," she added.

On a serious note, Fergie said husband Josh has "been amazing" with her since she fell pregnant. "He's so nice and wonderful, and he sings and talks to my belly all of the time. He's very complimentary. I'm very lucky that he is really good to me," she said, before adding, "He's going to be an amazing father. He's got natural parenting instincts. He wanted to knock me up from our first date. He's ready." The Hollywood couple wed in 2009 and will become parents for the first time later this year.

More Baby News From Fergie And Josh Duhamel

Fergie Josh Duhamel

We already know that Fergie and Josh Duhamel are extremely dedicated parents-to-be, but that dedication is reaching new heights. If you thought Fergie was the only musically gifted member of that clan, you were wrong, because the singer has revealed that her hubby already sings to their unborn child: "He's been amazing," Fergie told Us Weekly at the LOGO New Now Next awards on Saturday, April 13. "He's so nice and wonderful and he sings and talks to my belly all the time. He's very complimentary. I'm very lucky that he is really good to me."

In fact, Fergie has talked on a number of occasions about Duhamel’s stunning parenting skills and she didn’t fail to praise him this time: "He's just got natural parenting instincts and he wanted to knock me up from our first date! He is ready!"

Well, that last one sounded a bit worrying, but we can let it go, since they ended up as a happy couple anyway. Duhamel expressed his excitement about the little one as well, when he appeared on Chelsea Lately recently.

Safe Haven Review

Weak

Nicholas Sparks strikes again with yet another film based on a misty-eyed novel about tormented seaside romance in the romanticised American South. It's so trapped in Sparks' cliche-ridden universe that we know the entire plot right from the start, including expectations of a maudlin, possibly supernatural twist along the way and an over-sentimental climax. Fans of this sort of thing will love it, but everyone else will struggle to see it as anything more than simplistic rubbish.

The woman in peril this time is Katie (Hough), who is introduced while on the run, dying her hair blonde and jumping on a midnight bus out of Boston. When she arrives in a picture-postcard North Carolina fishing town, she takes one look at hunky shopkeeper Alex (Duhamel) and decides to stay. Not only is he handy with home repairs, but he has two smart, observant young children (Kirkland and Lomax) he's raising on his own. Even Katie's new neighbour (Smulders) thinks she should grab him while he's single. But she is of course running from something, and a tenacious cop Kevin (Lyons) on her trail.

In every movie based on a Sparks novel, we know exactly who is good and evil from the start. Sure enough, Kevin is clearly bad because he drinks vodka and is accompanied by menacing music every time we seen him. We also know there will be a surprise along the way, something that stretches the already fragile story logic beyond the breaking point. And in this film, it's also something cunningly designed to wrench tears from sensitive audience members. But everyone else in the audience will laugh at how inane it all is, bravely resisting the manipulative storytelling all the way to the happiest possible ending.

Fire With Fire Trailer

Jeremy Coleman is a firefighter who is looking forward to a night of celebrations with his workmates after a particularly taxing day on the job. However, as he stops by a convenience store to pick up some snacks his life takes a horrific turn when a racist gangster by the name of David Hagan shoots dead the owner and his son. Jeremy manages to escape scot-free and is able to identify the killer through a two way mirror at the police station. However, Hagan wastes no time in letting him know that he knows who he is and where to find him so Jeremy is put under witness protection under the name of Jeremy Douglas. He soon becomes romantically attached to his FBI escort Talia Durham so when she is nearly shot dead by one of Hagan's men, Jeremy ignores police orders and vows to hunt his adversary down.

'Fire With Fire' is a US crime thriller set to be released worldwide soon. It will hit worldwide theatres from March 8th 2013.

Pregnant Fergie And Husband Josh Duhamel Hit The Streets Of London

Fergie Josh Duhamel Julianne Hough

Fergie joined Josh Duhamel in London this week for the promotional campaign of his new movie Safe Haven, with Julianne Hough. Fergie, 37, recently announced she is pregnant with her first child and Josh opened up about impending fatherhood with omg! Yahoo, suggesting he "just clicks," with kids.

"It's very exciting," the 40-year-old said, "Seeing that ultrasound is unlike anything you've ever seen. Unless you've had one yourself. You're like, 'Wow, it's mine." Josh and Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie were photographed taking in the sights of the English capital, before chowing down on some pizza at popular chain restaurant Pizza Express. "I think that I've always had an affinity for kids," Duhamel suggested, "There's something about me and kids that just click. I don't know if it's because I am a kid, but it does prepare you whenever you're around them."

The actor has plenty of experience of playing fathers on-screen - he plays a dad in Safe Haven, and took on the family role for Life As We Know It in 2010. Despite this, Duhamel conceded he still has plenty to learn, "All that stuff is a learning experience for when it actually happens, but I don't think you're ever truly prepared until it's your own."

Fergie Pregnant: Black Eyed Peas Singer And Josh Duhamel Expecting First Child

Fergie Josh Duhamel Black Eyed Peas

Fergie has announced that she’s pregnant, the only way that celebrities know how to announce anything, these days. Gone are the times that their press agent would hurriedly scribble a press release and contact all the top journalists. No, Fergie did the thoroughly modern thing and announced it via her Twitter feed, with a message that read “Josh & Me & BABY makes three!!! #mylovelybabybump.”

That hashtag, of course, is a reference to the Black Eyed Peas song ‘Humps,’ which contains a line about “my lovely lady lumps.” We never were fond of that song… Anyway, back to the subject of the announcement, Fergie accompanied the message with a Photoshopped image of Josh and herself as babies. The young Fergie is holding a cat. We’re fairly certain that she is ACTUALLY pregnant though and not just going shopping for kittens.

Fergie, 37, and Josh Duhamel, 40 married back in 2009 and this will be their first child together. Duhamel will be ecstatic, no doubt, to have some good news to share with the public – especially after his latest movie, Safe Haven was panned by the critics ahead of its release last weekend. Fergie, meanwhile, is said to be working on material for a new solo album, according to MTV, though it’s unclear whether or not her pregnancy will cause the singer to go on a career hiatus.

Fergie Rumors: Is She Pregnant With Josh Duhamel's Baby?

Fergie Josh Duhamel Black Eyed Peas

The Fergie rumors reached fever pitch over the weekend, after the Black Eyed Peas singer was snapped carrying what media outlets described as "a few extra pounds." Fergie - real name Stacy Ferguson - is approaching 40-years-old but it didn't stop the inevitable pregnancy rumors!

Anyway, those very rumors were shot down by Fergie's husband Josh Duhamel at the premiere of his new movie Safe Haven. Asked by E! News' Jason Kennedy whether he had any baby news to share with the masses, Josh answered with a pointed, "No." So there you have it, no baby Black Eyed Pea just yet. Jason told Duhamel, "You said it's gonna be your greatest career achievement, so we're waiting," to which the actor said having a baby with Fergie would be his "greatest life achievement."

The pregnancy rumors began swirling after Fergie was photographed in a black Gucci skiff dress, perhaps not the most flattering for her curvy physique though the speculation was a clearly a little premature. Ferguson and Duhamel married in a Catholic ceremony on January 10, 2009 after five years of dating. They first met when the singer and her group appeared on Josh's show Las Vegas.

Julianne Hough Enjoys Hollywood Safe Haven Premiere, But It Could Have Been Very Different After Dodgy First Audition

Julianne Hough Josh Duhamel

As Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel – accompanied by Black Eyed Peas star Fergue – celebrated the Hollywood premiere of their forthcoming film Safe Haven in Hollywood last night, Popsugar posted a video of the female co-star in which she admitted she felt that she’d almost screwed up her audition for the role.

The film, released on Valentine’s Day (February 14, 2013), has been directed by Lasse Hallstrom and has been adapted from the book written by Nicholas Spark. It focuses on mysterious character Kate – played by Hough – who arrives in a small American town with a dark secret and her guard up. Gradually letting her guard down after allowing herself to be led into a series of relationships – including one with Duhamel’s Alex – she is ultimately faced with the decision of whether to fully admit her past and try and overcome her secret mistake.

“There were a lot of girls that went up for Katie” Hough told Popsugar. “I had my first audition and Lasse the director wasn’t even in the room. He was on Skype in New York and I was in the room with Josh … it felt very confined because we were trying to stay in front of the iPad and it was just kind of awkward. It’s hard to have chemistry and know how his style works because he does like to improvise in the audition but he wasn’t even in the room.”

Updates From Sundance Film Festival And The London Critics' Circle Awards Plus Trailers For, Stoker, Emperor And Red 2

As the Sundance Film Festival continues in Utah, buzz is emerging about the new Nicole Kidman movie Stoker, in which she plays the widowed mother of teen Mia Wasikowska as they deal with the arrival of the unexpectedly sexy Uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode). From the director of Old Boy, a new trailer depicts the film as a stylish, warped and very black comedy. It comes to cinemas on March 1st.

Here in Britain, two leading awards contenders open this week. Steven Spielberg's Lincoln stars Daniel Day-Lewis, the front-runner in the Best Actor race. This would be his unprecedented third win in the category. And Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty stars Jessica Chastain, who is currently the favourite for Best Actress, although Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Linings Playbook is giving her some serious competition.

But no one should write off iconic French actress Emmanuelle Riva's astonishing turn in Amour. She won the London Critics' Circle Film Award for Best Actress on Sunday. The London critics also gave Amour their Film of the Year title, and it's up for Best Picture at the Oscars as well.

Movie 43 Review

Weak

A collection of random shorts that focus mainly on idiotic male behaviour, this portmanteau comedy is only occasionally amusing, never making anything of its astonishing cast. Frankly, we spend most of the time wondering how the filmmakers lured these A-listers to appear in these pointless, nasty little films. And while the premises have potential, not a single one has a decent punchline.

As a prank, two teens make up a banned online film called Movie 43. While their brainly little brother searches for it, he runs across a series of clips that mainly focus on awkward vulgarity between the sexes. Bitter exes (Culkin and Stone) have a rude exchange that's broadcast on a supermarket sound system. Pratt is shocked when his girlfriend (Faris) asks him to "poop" on her, and agrees because he loves her. Parents (Watts and Schreiber) homeschool their teen son (White) with the goal of showing him how excruciating life will be. Two pals (Scott and Knoxville) kidnap a leprechaun (Butler) who's reluctant to give them his gold. And a 1950s basketball coach (Howard) tries to convince his players that they're winners because they're black.

Others are dating scenarios: Winslet goes on a blind date with a guy (Jackman) who has testicles on his neck; Berry and Merchant play an increasingly deranged game of Truth or Dare in a Mexican restaurant; a pre-teen (Bennett) can't cope when his young date (Moretz) has her first period; Batman (Sudeikis) messes up Robin's (Long) attempt at speed-dating; Banks struggles to cope with her new boyfriend's (Duhamel) obsessive cartoon cat. There are also a few random advert spoofs, including one for the naked-woman shaped iBabe, which leads to trouble for the company CEO (Gere).

Safe Haven Trailer

When Katie Feldman flees from her city and winds up in the picturesque town of Southport in North Carolina, she is initially welcomed by the close-knit community. As much as she tries to avoid it, being more fond of her own company than others, she forms bonds with her frank but friendly neighbour Jo and the quiet, widowed shop owner Alex. Alex is immediately taken to Katie and attempts to win the guarded newcomer over by fixing her a bike so she doesn't have to walk to work; however, she is reluctant to put her trust in anybody and does what she can to avoid falling in love with him. It isn't long before she finds herself giving in and following her heart, but then almost as soon as begins to believe she's safe again, her past follows her and she is faced with answering a lot of complicated questions about why she wound up in Southport.

'Safe Haven' is an adaptation from the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks ('The Notebook', 'Dear John'). It is directed by Academy Award nominee Lasse Hallstrom ('The Cider House Rules', 'Chocolat'), written by Leslie Bohem ('A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child') and Dana Stevens ('City of Angels') and from the producers of 'Twilight' and it is scheduled for release in the UK on March 1st 2013.

Movie 43 Trailer

If you were hoping for a romantic comedy with a harmless storyline, romance and inoffensive jokes, the here's a warning: read no further. 'Movie 43' is one of the most cringe-worthy and uncensored taboo-filled flicks to be released in the history of comedy. Here you will see several interlinked stories with characters' lives surrounding unusual proposals, interrupting blind kids' parties, bad parenting, teenage menstruation, a confused and slightly racist basketball coach, innovative business ideas and the kidnapping of a violent leprechaun. Once you see this movie it is unlikely you will find a subject that offends you ever again.

With twelve different comedy genius directors including Peter Farrelly ('Dumb & Dumber', 'There's Something About Mary', 'Shallow Hal'), Steve Carr ('Daddy Day Care', 'Dr Dolittle 2'), Steven Brill ('Little Nicky') and Brett Ratner ('Rush Hour') to name but a few and eight different writers, this jaw-droppingly crude and often obscene movie features a diverse star-studded cast, both British and American, who have banded together to shock you in the most hilarious ways you can think of. Whatever kind of comedy you're into, 'Movie 43' probably has something in it for everyone and it is set to hit the big screen on February 1st 2012.

Directed by : Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill, Steve Carr, Rusty Cundieff, James Duffy, Griffin Dunne, Peter Farrelly, Patrik Forsberg, James Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, Brett Ratner, Jonathan van Tulleken

New Year's Eve Review

Terrible
The team that made the thin-but-enjoyable Valentine's Day in 2010 reunites for another massively overextended rom-com with a remarkable A-list ensemble. But this time the stories and filmmaking overdose on ill-conceived schmaltz.

As the countdown to 2012 begins, an executive (Swank) is frazzled about a technical glitch in the iconic Time's Square ball-drop. Meanwhile, a courier (Efron) is trying to help a frumpy secretary (Pfeiffer) achieve her dreams. A chef (Heigl) is catering a glittering event while trying to avoid her rock star ex (Bon Jovi), whose back-up singer (Michele) is stuck in a lift with a lovelorn slacker (Kutcher). A mother (Parker) is worried about her teen daughter (Breslin). And a tuxedoed millionaire (Duhamel) is trying to get to an important event in the city.
