'How I Met Your Dad' Stalls After CBS Doesn't Bite Pilot

Greta Gerwig Meg Ryan Bob Saget Josh Radnor

How I Met Your Dad will not be making its debut on CBS this year after the network failed to be blown away by the spin-off pilot that Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and Emily Spivey presented. CBS ordered the pilot from the How I Met Your Mother creators before the long-running hit comedy came to an end this season.

The new concept sees Greta Gerwig play the equivalent of Josh Radnor's Ted Mosby whilst Meg Ryan provides the voiceover as Bob Saget did in the original show. The story follows Gerwig as Sally who recounts the tale of how she met her children's father throughout the proposed series.

Josh Radnor Neil Patrick Harris Cobie Smulders Jason Segel Alyson Hannigan Cristin Milioti

There'll be How I Met Your Mother fans with knots in their stomach all day today as they wait anxiously for the final episode of the hit CBS sitcom. It has been a long road for the comedy show which by tonight will have run its course over nine seasons. When "HIMYM" debuted back in the fall of 2005, no one could have predicted the consistent success and comedic legacy of such a simple premise: a man in 2030 telling his two kids the tale of how he met their mother.

How I Met Your Mother Cast
'How I Met Your Mother' Prepares For Its Final Episode This Evening.

An entire series told in flashbacks, HIMYM only revealed the identity of "the mother" at the end of series eight, played by Cristin Milioti. Certain signals from her interaction with Ted (Josh Radnor) lead fans to believe that the mother actually is dead in 2030, and that's why the dad is reminiscing with his kids. This rumour was quickly played down by the cast but shows a keenness amongst fans for a "legen-dary" twist to top of their favourite show.

The 86th Academy Awards

The 86th Academy Awards: The night we'd all been waiting for was finally here: this year's Oscars ceremony has come and gone along with another ground-breaking year in cinema. 12 Years a Slave predictably took Best Picture but Gravity emerged as the movie of the evening with seven awards, five of which were in the technical categories. Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett triumphed with their respective acting awards, pizza was served, Lupita Nyong'o was the darling of yet another awards show and high-scoring host Ellen Degeneres wrapped up the festivities with a neat and expertly-timed bow.

The Oscars Selfie: They say a picture speaks a thousand words but nowadays an image is judged by how many retweets it can get within the shortest space of time. When Ellen Degeneres decided to get a couple of stars together for an impromptu selfie, she probably didn't expect the shot - which featured Bradley Cooper, Brangeline, JLaw, Lupita, Kevin Spacey, Jared Leto, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep - to surpass Obama's re-election shot's previous world record. The snap broke Twitter, attracting 80,000 retweets within 30 minutes and 1.2 million in an hour.

With the first of nine final How I Met Your Mother episodes having aired last night, the countdown to the end has begun. For the HIMYM team, however, the countdown has been running for a few years – ever since they filmed the last scene of the last episode sometime during season two, News.com.au reports.

The actors have been at this for nine years.

The premise of the entire series is that sometime in the future, Josh Radnor’s character, Ted, is telling his kids the longwinded story of how he met their mother. In the early years of the show, the kids, played by David Henrie and Lyndsy Fonseca, were often seen sitting on a couch, listening to the story and looking utterly bored.

Afternoon Delight Trailer

Rachel is a married stay at home mother who you'd think had no worries in the world; she has a well-off husband, a beautiful house, an adorable son and plenty of friends but somehow, she just doesn't seem to fit in. She visits her therapist regularly to discuss her floundering career prospects and totally diminishing sex life. One day, however, a friend of hers comes up with an idea to hit a strip club where Rachel meets a 19-year-old lap dancer named McKenna. Rachel later bumps into her in the street, where she had been thrown out of her home, and offers her a place to stay. Enlisting her as a live-in nanny, Rachel becomes fixated on helping McKenna find a better life, to the shock of her husband Jeff and friends. McKenna's presence soon becomes a strain on her marriage and Jeff starts to wonder if it's Rachel who needs the help, not McKenna.

Primetime Emmy nominated Jill Soloway ('Six Feet Under', 'United States of Tara') has directed and written this comedy drama about true happiness and contentment with the cards you have been dealt. The final season of How I Met Your Mother is going on full speed ahead (tear) and last week’s episode saw the chaos surrounding Barney and Robin’s wedding continue to unfold. Do we even need to explain that this recap will contain ALL OF THE SPOILERS? No? Ok. The couple try to find a place where they can be alone before the wedding and before “those old b***ards latch onto us like leeches.” As you can guess, by “those b***ards” they mean their relatives.

The wedding stress is finally catching up with Barney and Robin.

Meanwhile, Marshall continues his heroic quest to Farhampton. He’s making headway, but unfortunately, we’re not quite at the end of the season, so that probably means he’ll have to go through a few more challenges before making it. This week it was Wisconsin – for you non-football fans, that’s the home of the Green Bay Packers – sworn rivals of Marshall’s dearest Vikings. Without spoiling too much, things get intense.

How I Met Your Mother' FINALLY Puts A Face To The Name

Josh Radnor Neil Patrick Harris Cristin Milioti Alyson Hannigan

Spoiler alert, obviously.

We finally met the mother on Monday's episode of CBS hit show How I Met Your Mother. Fans have watched patiently for the last eight seasons wondering who Mrs Mosby could be, though it was finally revealed on last night's season final episode 'Something New.'

Ted's future bride is none other than..err, unknown actress Cristin Milioti. He is seen in the concluding seconds of the episode at the train station holding the famous yellow umbrella buying a ticket to Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin's (Colbie Smulders) pending nuptials. "One ticket to Farhampton," she says as her face is revealed and the season ends. It will pick back up in September for the ninth and final season.

How I Met Your Mother: Time To Meet The Mother?

Josh Radnor

How I Met Your Mother season 8 kicked off last night (September 24th) and many are wondering: is this the last season ever? Is it finally time to find out how Ted met his wife? According to Entertainment weekly, it might just be.

"We sort of come in every day and go, 'This is the last season of How I Met Your Mother' until we hear different. We really feel like this launches the last season," explained co-creator Craig Thomas. So now season 8 is poised like a fine balancing act, the writers will be ready for the much anticipated reveal, with a backup plan ready just in case they have to delay to a ninth season. "I don't want to say because ultimately when we do cast the actress who's the mother, it's going to have to be shrouded in secrecy, so if it already happened, we already did it, we don't want to say," Thomas continued. So, a double edged sword for fans; some will hope the laughs carry on, and some will want to finally meet the elusive mother to Ted's (played by Josh Radnor) children.

To even get to an 8th season is a fantastic feat for an American sitcom, especially considering the cutthroat industry that is television. But with great ratings, a show is always set for renewal. Season 1 of How I Met. garnered an impressive 9.4m viewers, but the real sign of a show's longevity is how many return for the second, and it didn't disappoint with just fewer than 9m. Incredibly, more 9.6m people tuned in for season 7, proving that if a 9th season was commissioned, it would have the legs to survive.
