What was wrong with the 'How I Met Your Mother' spin-off?
How I Met Your Dad will not be making its debut on CBS this year after the network failed to be blown away by the spin-off pilot that Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and Emily Spivey presented. CBS ordered the pilot from the How I Met Your Mother creators before the long-running hit comedy came to an end this season.
Greta Gerwig Takes The Lead In 'How I Met Your Dad.'
The new concept sees Greta Gerwig play the equivalent of Josh Radnor's Ted Mosby whilst Meg Ryan provides the voiceover as Bob Saget did in the original show. The story follows Gerwig as Sally who recounts the tale of how she met her children's father throughout the proposed series.

Tonight, we'll find out how Ted and "The Mother" met.
There'll be How I Met Your Mother fans with knots in their stomach all day today as they wait anxiously for the final episode of the hit CBS sitcom. It has been a long road for the comedy show which by tonight will have run its course over nine seasons. When "HIMYM" debuted back in the fall of 2005, no one could have predicted the consistent success and comedic legacy of such a simple premise: a man in 2030 telling his two kids the tale of how he met their mother.
'How I Met Your Mother' Prepares For Its Final Episode This Evening.
An entire series told in flashbacks, HIMYM only revealed the identity of "the mother" at the end of series eight, played by Cristin Milioti. Certain signals from her interaction with Ted (Josh Radnor) lead fans to believe that the mother actually is dead in 2030, and that's why the dad is reminiscing with his kids. This rumour was quickly played down by the cast but shows a keenness amongst fans for a "legen-dary" twist to top of their favourite show.

In two episode's time we'll have the last ever episode of How I Met Your Mother. It has been a long and undulating road for the hit CBS sitcom but the upcoming 31st March will hopefully give the series' devoted fans the finale they deserve.
The HIMYM team's final outing will cap nine seasons, which is a pretty impressive feat: "I feel grateful that we all managed to get to the finish line. It's not every show that gets to run nine years and end on its own terms," says co-creator Carter Bays, who, has helped guide the show to its long-planned ending.

The Oscars: need we say more? The movie event of the year finally came and went with lots of dazzling winners and hilarious stories.
The 86th Academy Awards: The night we'd all been waiting for was finally here: this year's Oscars ceremony has come and gone along with another ground-breaking year in cinema. 12 Years a Slave predictably took Best Picture but Gravity emerged as the movie of the evening with seven awards, five of which were in the technical categories. Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett triumphed with their respective acting awards, pizza was served, Lupita Nyong'o was the darling of yet another awards show and high-scoring host Ellen Degeneres wrapped up the festivities with a neat and expertly-timed bow.
The Oscars Selfie: They say a picture speaks a thousand words but nowadays an image is judged by how many retweets it can get within the shortest space of time. When Ellen Degeneres decided to get a couple of stars together for an impromptu selfie, she probably didn't expect the shot - which featured Bradley Cooper, Brangeline, JLaw, Lupita, Kevin Spacey, Jared Leto, Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep - to surpass Obama's re-election shot's previous world record. The snap broke Twitter, attracting 80,000 retweets within 30 minutes and 1.2 million in an hour.
The cast of hit comedy TV series 'How I Met Your Mother' arrive separately at the New York studios for 'The Late Show With David Letterman'.
The producers managed to sneak that one past everyone.
With the first of nine final How I Met Your Mother episodes having aired last night, the countdown to the end has begun. For the HIMYM team, however, the countdown has been running for a few years – ever since they filmed the last scene of the last episode sometime during season two, News.com.au reports.
The actors have been at this for nine years.
The premise of the entire series is that sometime in the future, Josh Radnor’s character, Ted, is telling his kids the longwinded story of how he met their mother. In the early years of the show, the kids, played by David Henrie and Lyndsy Fonseca, were often seen sitting on a couch, listening to the story and looking utterly bored.
The sitcom’s creators apologise after “racist” storyline set in China.
An apology has been sent out by the team behind How I Met Your Mother, sorry for the offence that last night's episode 'Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmarra' caused. The episode, which was partly set in China, was accused of being racist by some fans who used the Twitter hashtag "#HowIMetYourRacism" to criticise a scene in which the cast were shown with make-up, costumes and accents that some deemed offensive.
The 'HIMYM' Team Disappointed Many Of Their Fans With Themes Of Racial Appropriation.
The episode sees Jason Segel's character Marshall travel to China, where he met characters from Kung Fu films which were played by regular cast members Jash Radnor, Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders. The three were accused of using "yellowface," which is the practice of wearing yellow face paint to make oneself seem more East Asian.
Jill Soloway's first directorial project might just be required viewing for 2013.
Director Jill Soloway, known for her quirky and clever comedy, offers up a brand new one this year – Afternoon Delight. The film tells the story of Rachel, a stay-at-home mother, who has fallen victim to the inanity of suburbia. After visiting a strip club on a friend’s whim, Rachel meets McKenna – a 19-year-old stripper and “full-service sex worker.”
One woman has her life changed by a chance encounter with a sex worker.
Fate interjects and the two women’s paths cross again, leading Rachel to all but adopt McKenna – the suburban housewife takes in her new friend and gives her a job as a nanny, all in an attempt to help the young’un to get back on her feet. But McKenna’s presence in the house begins to create tension between Rachel and her husband and, as you may have guessed, trouble isn’t far behind. All this leads Jeff to question whether it isn’t Rachel, who might need some help herself.
Rachel is a married stay at home mother who you'd think had no worries in the world; she has a well-off husband, a beautiful house, an adorable son and plenty of friends but somehow, she just doesn't seem to fit in. She visits her therapist regularly to discuss her floundering career prospects and totally diminishing sex life. One day, however, a friend of hers comes up with an idea to hit a strip club where Rachel meets a 19-year-old lap dancer named McKenna. Rachel later bumps into her in the street, where she had been thrown out of her home, and offers her a place to stay. Enlisting her as a live-in nanny, Rachel becomes fixated on helping McKenna find a better life, to the shock of her husband Jeff and friends. McKenna's presence soon becomes a strain on her marriage and Jeff starts to wonder if it's Rachel who needs the help, not McKenna.
Primetime Emmy nominated Jill Soloway ('Six Feet Under', 'United States of Tara') has directed and written this comedy drama about true happiness and contentment with the cards you have been dealt. It's poignancy and gentle humour won it the Directing Award at 2013 Sundance Film Festival, with it also being nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.
Beware, what follows is a very spoiler-y recap of HIMYM Season 9, Episode 3, "Last Time In New York"
The final season of How I Met Your Mother is going on full speed ahead (tear) and last week’s episode saw the chaos surrounding Barney and Robin’s wedding continue to unfold. Do we even need to explain that this recap will contain ALL OF THE SPOILERS? No? Ok. The couple try to find a place where they can be alone before the wedding and before “those old b***ards latch onto us like leeches.” As you can guess, by “those b***ards” they mean their relatives.
The wedding stress is finally catching up with Barney and Robin.
Meanwhile, Marshall continues his heroic quest to Farhampton. He’s making headway, but unfortunately, we’re not quite at the end of the season, so that probably means he’ll have to go through a few more challenges before making it. This week it was Wisconsin – for you non-football fans, that’s the home of the Green Bay Packers – sworn rivals of Marshall’s dearest Vikings. Without spoiling too much, things get intense.
Finally, we meet the mother. Spoilers.
We got a glimpse of the titular and enigmatic mother from How I Met Your Mother at the end of season eight: a woman yielding a yellow umbrella. But it wasn’t until the very end of the show’s one-hour season nine premiere that we got a real look at her.
Neil Patrick Harris - will his wedding get ruined?
Enter Cristin Milioti. The still nameless mother managed to cheer up a distraught Lily by offering up some ‘sumbitch’ cookies. Lily and her got on like a house on fire, and after having a big ol’ chat about Ted, it’s exciting to know that the unlucky-in-love ‘I’ in ‘How I…’ will finally be meeting his future wife.

E.L James' Fifty Shades of Grey novels have taken the literary world by storm - but do they have any merit?
E.L James, the British novelist behind the polarizing Fifty Shades of Grey books, is the highest ranked author on Forbes Celebrity 100 list, placing at No.42 and beating the likes of crime specialist James Patterson, horror legend Stephen King, Hunger Games writer Suzanne Collins and Harry Potter author J.K Rowling.
E.L James Signing Copies Of Her Hugely Popular Fifty Shades of Grey Books
James' erotic novels Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed have taken the publishing world by storm, selling in their bucket load, catapulting Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey into public consciousness and spawning a soon-to-be-filmed movie likely to star Henry Cavill, Ryan Gosling, or...some other bloke.
Among the CBS TV show actors arriving at the network's 2013 Upfront Presentation in New York were Sharon Osbourne from 'The Talk' (who doesn't refrain from her usual face-pulling shenanigans) and the cast of 'How I Met Your Mother' Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan.
The mother of HIMYM has been revealed (Spoilers)
After spending nearly a decade telling his children about every woman he had sex with before meeting their mother, Ted from How I Met Your Mother (Josh Radnor) has finally met his future wife and the mother of his children. On the final episode of the eighth-season, shown on Monday night (May 13), the titular character was finally reveal.
Cristin Milioti is the actress who plays the mother, having never appeared in the show until last night. Today, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Milioti is indeed the woman Ted has been looking for, with the show's bosses at CBS adding that the actress will feature prominently in the ninth and final season of the show. Milioti and Radnor shared no scene in the episode, with her identity only being revealed to the audience.

So THAT's how he met the mother.
Spoiler alert, obviously.
We finally met the mother on Monday's episode of CBS hit show How I Met Your Mother. Fans have watched patiently for the last eight seasons wondering who Mrs Mosby could be, though it was finally revealed on last night's season final episode 'Something New.'
Ted's future bride is none other than..err, unknown actress Cristin Milioti. He is seen in the concluding seconds of the episode at the train station holding the famous yellow umbrella buying a ticket to Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin's (Colbie Smulders) pending nuptials. "One ticket to Farhampton," she says as her face is revealed and the season ends. It will pick back up in September for the ninth and final season.

How I Met Your Mother season 8 kicked off last night (September 24th) and many are wondering: is this the last season ever? Is it finally time to find out how Ted met his wife? According to Entertainment weekly, it might just be.
"We sort of come in every day and go, 'This is the last season of How I Met Your Mother' until we hear different. We really feel like this launches the last season," explained co-creator Craig Thomas. So now season 8 is poised like a fine balancing act, the writers will be ready for the much anticipated reveal, with a backup plan ready just in case they have to delay to a ninth season. "I don't want to say because ultimately when we do cast the actress who's the mother, it's going to have to be shrouded in secrecy, so if it already happened, we already did it, we don't want to say," Thomas continued. So, a double edged sword for fans; some will hope the laughs carry on, and some will want to finally meet the elusive mother to Ted's (played by Josh Radnor) children.
To even get to an 8th season is a fantastic feat for an American sitcom, especially considering the cutthroat industry that is television. But with great ratings, a show is always set for renewal. Season 1 of How I Met. garnered an impressive 9.4m viewers, but the real sign of a show's longevity is how many return for the second, and it didn't disappoint with just fewer than 9m. Incredibly, more 9.6m people tuned in for season 7, proving that if a 9th season was commissioned, it would have the legs to survive.
It's Sam's 'big day', today is the day he's set to meet with a publishing house with a view to possibly publishing his first novel, something he's wanted all his life. Sitting on the subway, Sam notices a little boy get separated from his guardian, unwilling to leave the boy alone, Sam tries to take the boy, Rasheen, to the police, but he has different ideas and bolts. After catching up with the boy, Sam learns that Rasheen's been in the care of social services before and will not return. Late for his meeting, Sam reluctantly agrees to take Rasheen in for a few days until they find a suitable arrangement.
