Joss Whedon’s superhero sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron will shoot in the South Korean capital of Seoul, Marvel announced on Tuesday (February 18, 2014). It’s one of several international shooting locations for the follow-up to 2012’s The Avengers, which took 60% of its $1.5 billion box-office takings from foreign markets.

In addition to Korea, Avengers: Age of Ultron will film in London (where production is based) as well as Johannesburg, South Africa and Aosta Valley, Italy.  

“South Korea is the perfect location for a movie of this magnitude because it features cutting-edge technology, beautiful landscapes and spectacular architecture,” said Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios and producer of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Production in the country signals hundreds of new jobs for local extras, production crews and vendors.

“We’re very excited to have the production in Korea, and also expect this to serve as the footstep of many more opportunities yet to come.” said minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism of Republic of Korea, Yoo Jinryong.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is written and directed by Whedon and features an ensemble cast including returning stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson, and new additions Elizabeth Olsen, James Spader and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. 

Marvel has close links with Asia and director Shane Black shot a portion of the huge crossing Iron Man 3 in China.
