Julia Roberts was enjoying a successful run at the movie award season for her latest film 'August: Osage County', but some recent family news has left her devastated.

Nancy Motes, the half-sister of Julia and Eric Roberts, was found dead in the bathtub of her apartment this past Sunday (Feb 9th).

The cause of death is suspected to be a drug overdose.

The 'Pretty Women' actress's rep released a statement to E!News, which read "It is with deep sadness that the family of Nancy Motes... confirms that she was found dead in Los Angeles yesterday of an apparent drug overdose."

Adding, "There is no official report from the Coroner's office yet. The family is both shocked and devastated."

Motes was discovered at a property on N. Bundy Drive, around 2 p.m. Sunday, by her fiancé.

The death was first reported as a suicide but there was no letter or note left by her at the scene, the NY Daily News reports.

Craig R. Harvey, chief of coroner investigations for Los Angeles County, sent the newspaper an email which stated, the case was "reported to (the) coroner as a suicide."

Adding, "The decedent was found in a bathtub that contained water. There were prescription and non-prescription drugs found at the scene. The role the drugs may or may not have played is not yet known."

Additional toxicology tests will need to be admitted before the final cause of death can be determined.

Roberts, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress at this year's upcoming Academy-Awards, has been pulled from several Oscar luncheons to be with her family.

Motes shares the same mother as the 'Notting Hill' actress but is the daughter of her stepfather Michael Motes.
