Actress Julia Stiles had strong reservations about playing a prostitute in upcoming Internet series Blue because she feels "shy" stripping off for sex scenes.
The 10 Things I Hate About You star plays a single mother who becomes a call girl to make ends meet in a new YouTube.com programme, but Stiles admits she was initially hesitant to take on the project due to the risque premise.
She tells the New York Daily News, "I'm kind of scared of the Internet and I wasn't that interested in the idea of a YouTube show until I read the script. I was hooked from the first scene... I was always a little bit wary of playing somebody who was working as an escort because it's just a very delicate subject matter...
"I just thought that there have already been so many movies and shows about prostitutes. And I'm just shy in front of a camera in terms of confronting that kind of subject matter. But it also just has to be handled properly."
The 31 year old insists doing a low-budget show has its perks - the cast and crew had complete creative control and were able to shoot 12 episodes in just one day.
She adds, "When there's less money, there's fewer people involved, so it was really driven by (writer/director) Rodrigo Garcia. He didn't have to take notes from a network, for instance."
