Yet another much-beloved musical is set to hit the small screen for a live showing in the form of 'Grease: Live', starring the likes of Julianne Hough, Aaron Tveit and Vanessa Hudgens - plus, a special cameo from singer Joe Jonas. And, unusually for a televised musical, it will be performed in front of a live audience of 700.

Following the success of 'The Wiz' and 'The Sound Of Music', a modern twist on 'Grease' will hit Fox on Sunday night (January 31st 2016) with Hough, Tveit and Hudgens in the lead roles of Sandy, Danny and Rizzo. It's an exciting main cast, given that we're already aware of their talents from 'Rock of Ages', 'Les Misérables' and 'High School Musical' respectively.

At the helm of 'Grease: Live' are producer Marc Platt of Broadway's 'Wicked' and 'Hamilton' director Thomas Kail. If you don't already know the story, it follows the arrival of Sandy Young at Rydell High who is inducted into the Pink Ladies girl gang and soon bumps into her summer fling Danny Zuko, who's clearly trying to hide his feelings for her to avoid teasing from his friends the T-Birds. Even so, he still wants to be with her, but his own pride - plus their jealous friends Rizzo and Kenickie - threatens to tear them apart before they've even begun.

The original 'Grease' was written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey in 1971, but it was adapted into a much more popular film in 1978 starring Olivia Newton John as Sandy and John Travolta as Danny. Julianne Hough reveals that she was close to tears when she found out she'd be stepping into Olivia's shoes. 'I almost started crying because I was like, 'This is my, like, hero. This is my 5-year-old dream'', she said. 'I can discover Sandy for myself and still honor what Olivia did. I hope that she will be watching.'

Other stars in the show are Keke Palmer as Marty Maraschino, Carlos PenaVega as Kenickie and Carly Rae Jepsen as Frenchy. Joe Jonas will make a cameo as Johnny Casino; the lead singer of the high school dance band Johnny Casino and the Gamblers; alongside his band DNCE. 'We love the movie and the music', he told Rolling Stone. 'It's this timeless show that everyone is familiar with. We were so thrilled.'

'Grease: Live' will be on Fox on January 31st between 7 and 10 pm.
