Justin Bieber and his 19-year-old girlfriend Selena Gomez are the subject of a controversial new sculpture by artist Daniel Edwards. The teenage couple, who went public with their relationship earlier this year, appear side-by-side in a statue reminiscent of an Oscar's statuette.
Edwards, famed for his unconventional creations, grabbed his tools and came up with the sculpture that sees Bieber and Gomez almost completely naked. The Hollywood stars are covered only by a Canadian Maple Leaf and Texas Lone Star. The words "Justin & Selena Forever" are inscribed on the base of the bronze statuette. The work comes as no surprise, given Edwards' interesting history with celebrity and sculpture. His pieces include a sculpture of the disembodied head of baseball star Ted Williams, a life-sized statue of Britney Spears giving birth while on her hands and knees, and a 25 foot bust of Fidel Castro. Edwards said the new sculpture, entitled 'Justin and Selena as One', should be "considered for installation at Canadian Embassies around the globe as a symbol of Canada's prowess in the areas of art and commerce".
The portrait will be unveiled at Dallas's New Fine Arts at a time yet to be announced by Cory Allen Contemporary Art.
