Justin Bieber's legal problems seem to be never ending. The 20 year-old megastar had another run-in with the law this past weekend after he was arrested in Canada on charges of assault and dangerous driving.

On Friday (Sept 29th), Bieber was taken into custody by Ontario police for allegedly being involved in a fight with a photographer after his ATV collided with a mini-van near his hometown of Stratford, Ontario, CTV News Canada reported.

"One of the occupants of the van and the operator of the ATV had words," law enforcers told reporters Tuesday afternoon (Sept 2nd). "There was an altercation that took place and as a result of that we ended up arresting Justin Bieber for the offences that were committed."

Bieber, who was identified as a resident of Calabasas, Calif., was apparently being chased by people with cameras when the collision took place, his lawyer says.

The 'Baby' singer was released from custody on the same day and now has to appear in court on Sept. 29th, but a representative for him can attend the hearing instead.

Bieber will only have to go to court if the case goes to trial. The Canadian star's legal team also released a statement on Tuesday, explaining that he was visiting his hometown with his rumoured girlfriend Selena Gomez.

"Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez's peaceful retreat in Stratford this weekend was unfortunately disrupted by the unwelcome presence of paparazzi," the statement said. "This has regrettably resulted in charges of dangerous driving and assault."

On the day of the incident photos emerged online of the two singers cruising around on an ATV, so it is likely that the driver of the mini-van was a paparazzo trying to photograph the couple, TMZ reports.

The occupants of the van have already hired Los Angeles-based lawyer Gloria Allred, but in their attorney's first statement, she didn't identify the alleged victims as photographers.

"My clients will have no other comment at this time. All evidence has been provided to the Canadian authorities," she said. "This is a serious matter that could have an impact on Mr. Bieber's probation status in California."
