Justin Bieber has become embroiled in a Mexican mystery after representatives for the country's president denied the singer's claims he met with the leader before a gig.
The teenage singer took his Believe World Tour to the country this week (beg18Nov13) and played the first of two shows in Mexico City on Monday night (18Nov13).
Before the gig, Bieber took to Twitter.com to boast about meeting the country's president, Enrique Pena Nieto, and his family, writing, "Just met some amazing Mexican Beliebers and the presidente of Mexico and his familia (sic). Now it is showtime. 60,000 tonight. Night 1. Te amo (I love you)."
However, the tweet caused a stir in the president's office and representatives for the politician have now released a statement denying Nieto held a meeting with the singer.
The statement, released through the president's official Twitter account, reads, "The president's office has denied that the president, Enrique Pena Nieto, held a meeting with singer Justin Bieber... The agenda of the president has focused on internal activities with members of his cabinet."
