Justin Bieber surprised customers at an Indiana bar over the Labor Day weekend when he jumped on stage for an impromptu performance on the drums. It’s not certain what Bieber was doing in Angola, Indiana but he was in a bar called The Venue watching a variety cover band perform when he decided to join them on stage.

His presence at The Venue was confirmed by the bar who tweeted about his drum solo and also by members of the cover band, Bonafide. One of the band’s members didn’t recognise Bieber at first but described the response of the audience when it dawned on them who it was.

“He just looked like a normal kid in the bar, except for the hat and hoodie,” Bonafide band member, Heidi Herber told WANE. “We had no idea [he was going to be there], in fact, he was one of the first people in bar.”

“It was a social media frenzy. The phones started to come out,” Herber said of the moment when Bieber was recognised. “Social media is extremely powerful.”

Bieber’s performance seemed to go down well with the audience and it was certainly a pleasant surprise for many. Bieber seems to be turning over a new leaf after his minor run-ins with the law and his neighbours over the past few years. He recently got a little bit over-emotional at the MTV VMAs after performing ‘What Do You Mean?’ Speaking on a talk show a few days after the performance, Bieber explained how he was overwrought from the pressure of feeling “judged” and had “worked so hard” on his album and “becoming the man” he wants to be.

Bieber is not the only musician this week to have surprised the public with a performance. Over the weekend, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler joined a busker in Moscow for a performance of his band’s ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing’.
