Justin Bieber should probably avoid Argentina for a little while, as a judge there has just issued a warrant for the star’s arrest. The Buenos Aires judge made the ruling in relation to Bieber failing to respond to a summons about an alleged assault at a nightclub back in 2013.

A copy of the court ruling, dated April 8th, was posted on Argentine entertainment website farandulaShow.com on Friday, and it orders that the ‘Baby’ singer is to be detained if enters the country. Court secretary Soledad Nieto, who co-signed the order, confirmed its authenticity.

Justin BieberBieber is apparently a wanted man in Argentina

It is alleged that, upon leaving a nightspot in the Buenos Aires’ popular neighbourhood Palermo Hollywood, Bieber ordered his bodyguards to prevent local photographer Diego Pesoa from taking a picture of him. They apparently got a little heavy-handed and physical in doing so, leading to original complaint back in November 2013.

One year after the incident – i.e., November last year – a different local magistrate had ordered Bieber to face questioning over what happened within two months, and had asked the Argentine branch of Interpol to help track down the star, according to Reuters.

That doesn’t appear to have happened, hence the new order. “I consider it pertinent to order the immediate detention of the accused,” reads the April 8th order, signed by Argentine Judge Alberto Julio Banos’ ruling, which applies not only to Bieber but two of his bodyguards, named as Hugo Alcides Hesny and Terrence Reche Smalls.

Under Argentine law, the Canadian singer could spend anything from one month to six years behind bars if found guilty. However, it is as yet unclear whether the warrant’s authority extends beyond Argentina.

Neither Bieber nor his representatives are believed to have responded to the order, nor have they made any public statement regarding the new allegations.
