Executives at cosmetics giant Elizabeth Arden have blamed poor sales of Justin Bieber's fragrances for a huge slump in profits.

The company behind Bieber's perfume range for girls has suffered major losses over the last year, and bosses have blamed a decline in sales of the star's products, which include scents titled Someday and The Key.

The news comes as a further blow to the troubled pop star, who has dashed his clean-cut reputation in recent months with a slew of legal troubles, including a conviction on a vandalism charge for pelting a neighbour's house with eggs, and a Dui bust in Florida.

Elizabeth Arden bosses have also blamed the slump on low sales of fragrances by fellow pop star Taylor Swift, who has launched scents including Wonderstruck and Made of Starlight through the brand.

A statement from the firm reads, "The company had expected weaker sales comparisons due to the lower level of fragrance launch activity in fiscal 2014 versus fiscal 2013. (But) the decline in sales of celebrity fragrances, particularly the Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift fragrances, was steeper than anticipated."

Elizabeth Arden also produces fragrances for other stars including Britney Spears, Jennifer Aniston and Mariah Carey.
