Looks like 'True Detective' feels the need for speed, as the director of four films from the Fast and Furious franchise, Justin Lin, is all lined up to step up at the show's helm.

Deadline reports that Lin has been lined up to direct the first two episodes of the new season of the hit HBO show which walked away with five Emmy awards last week. Rumours have been swirling for months about the plot and casting details for the next outing which helped bring Matthew McConaughey back into public favour. Previously more known for his appearences in terrible rom-coms such as How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days and Failure to Launch, McConaughey blew audiences away with his gritty portrayal of Detective Rush Cohle. 

No doubt the script for the new series is hot property in Hollywood and every actor is vying for a place, with names such as Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell already thrown into the ring. Deadline also states that the new series "will be set in California and focus on the investigation of a corrupt city manager who gets murdered amidst a potential groundbreaking transportation deal".

If the rumours are true, it looks like the show's creator Nic Pizzolatto is serious about the show taking a vastly different direction. Lin is still attached to the untitled Bourne sequel that has been pushed pack to 2016, presumably to allow for Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye commitments with The Avengers: Age of Ultron. 

Cary Fukunaga directed the entire first season of 'True Detective' and received an Emmy last week for his efforts, as well as executive producing it. Prior to 'True Detective' he was best known for directing the 2011 adaptation of Jane Eyre starring Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender. Fukunaga is currently directing the war drama film Beasts of No Nation which will star Idris Elba but he will be staying on as an executive producer for the next series of the tv show.
