US singer Justin Timberlake performed at the interval of the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm on Saturday evening, as the votes were being counted for the 26 acts. Taking to the stage at the Globe Arena, Timberlake said: "To all of you, I know what it's like to perform a song for the first time in front of millions of people, so I know you must have been nervous tonight. You all represented your countries so very well and you must be so very proud. Cheers to you. I'm now nervous myself!”

While he may have seemed to some to be a random inclusion in the ceremony, 'Can't Stop the Feeling’ was written by Timberlake alongside Swedish songwriters Max Martin and Shellback. Speaking before Timberlake’s performance, Martin Osterdahl, the contest’s producer, said getting the singer was ‘a fantastic opportunity’.

But not everybody was happy to see Timberlake take the stage. Some critics used Timberlake’s appearance as an example of the increasing “internationalisation” of the event, which also included Australia in the competition for a second year running.
