Will Justin Timberlake Be Sued For 'Take Back The Night' Track Title?

Timberlake debuted new track 'Take Back The Night' at London's Wireless Festival during his Friday headline slot, to great excitement from fans but one organisation apparently is not impressed with the 'Sexyback' singer's choice of track name. Take Back The Night, an anti-rape charity, are "shocked" to learn that Timberlake chose the name of their organisation for his new song which features overtly sexual lyrics. "Tonight the night, come on surrender/ I won't lead your love astray, astray, yeah/ Your love's a weapon/ Give your body some direction/ That's my aim," sings Timberlake who clearly graduated from the same school of persuasive courtship as 'Blurred Lines' singer Robin Thicke.

Justin Timberlake Is In A Spot Of Trouble With A Charity Whose Name He Used Without Permission.

Essentially, it's a typical Timberlake track, laced with whistles and a horn section and those distinctive falsetto vocals, i.e. it's bound to be a mega hit. So it's no wonder really that JT's ruffled a few feathers over the identity of the titling phrase; the charity are perturbed to say the least, with Take Back the Night Foundation Executive Director Katherine Koestner explaining to Radar Online: "We have some big concerns. For example, all of a sudden on Wikipedia, Take Back the Night has a different definition. That's not been helpful." Turning scrutiny towards the song's sexually-themed lyrics, Koestner adds "The lyrics are definitely very sexual and not at all clearly anti-sexual violence. 'Use me,' for example, is not a great phrase for anyone affiliated with the organization."

Timberlake Has Been Issued With A Legal Warning By Take Back The Night.

"Everyone at Take Back the Night is really shocked, because normally, we get asked when people want to use the name," complains Koestner on behalf on the 1999 founded charity, "Normally entities as large as Justin Timberlake do very kind and thoughtful things to support our cause." The initiative aims to bring awareness of date rape and seeks an end to "sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual abuse and all other forms of sexual violence."

Will JT And Take Back The Night Settle Issues "Amicably"?

Koestner, who is credited as one of the first to speak out about date rape, has revealed that due to receiving no reply from an initial communication via Timberlake's website they "sent him a letter Friday (July 12) from [their] legal counsel saying 'You used our name without our permission'." Justin's agent replied, defending the 32 year-old singer: "His agent said 'Justin's a good guy! He's a family man!' They claimed he'd never heard of us before he wrote that song. I don't know what country he's been in. I suppose it could have slipped off his radar screen somehow. Somebody working for him definitely messed up." Take Back The Night have said they're hoping for an "amicable" resolution.
